U.S. Supreme Court declines to block New York gun restrictions

The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday turned away a challenge by a group of firearms dealers in New York to numerous Democratic-backed measures adopted by the state last year regulating gun purchases that the businesses said hurt their businesses.

The justices, with no public dissents, denied a request by the dealers to block the laws, some of which imposed gun safety requirements on retailers, while their appeal of a lower court's decision in favor of New York proceeds.

The state's Democratic-led legislature passed some of the laws last June. Others were adopted in July after the Supreme Court the prior month struck down New York's limits on carrying concealed handguns outside the home in a landmark ruling expanding gun rights.

On one hand, "shall not be infringed."

On the other hand, this is what the people on NYS consistently vote for. As long as it's a State-level law and not a federal law, I'm kinda fine with it. It's what the citizens of NYS want.

“It’s what the citizens of NYS want.”

It’s what the citizens of NYC want. Kind of like how the coastal tapeworms that have infested Colorado control Boulder and Denver. ‘I came for the powder dude!’.

It's up to the citizens anyway.

Which of you are giving up your inalienable rights because some tyrant thinks its a good idea?

The SC rarely jumps ahead of the appeal ladder. No dissent by Thomas or Alito means they are going to let it work its way through.

Albany, Rochester, and Buffalo help elect the crazy left-wing state legislature that makes these crazy gun laws. But yes, NYC is it's own world. But they are free to elect whomever they want. And they keep electing lunatics. And NYC has even MORE restrictive gun laws than the State they passed through the City Council in the NYC Administrative Code!

Simple. The case is proceeding on appeal. No need for the SC to expend energy on this at this point.

Gun rights groups want an immediate ruling. The USSC says - wait your turn.

Precisely.

Reuters headline crafted to make it appear as though it was a setback for 2nd amendment advocates.

This is not really a surprise. SCOTUS just said that the lower court case should proceed.

I know they have their parlor game rules they love so much.

But justice delayed, is justice denied. Their adherence to a meaningless rule means some innocent people will die, that would have lived, before this is finally overturned a few years from now. God forbid they act on an obvious constitutional violation.

We will never know their names, but the Supremes cowardice killed some people... again.

Every topic involving a vote now means FR divides because “the election was rigged” or “the Dem controlled big city X made the margin and the rest of the state has good people who are ignored.”

Symptoms of coming civil war. Outstate vs. urban enclaves in nearly every big state now.

And when Dems someday get what they call “democracy” it will mean 100% power for Leftist cities and ignore the flyover country hillbillies they disdain elsewhere. Majority rules——totalitarian woke majority only need apply.

Goodbye to religious freedom, nuclear family, rights for non-feminists, the right to say no to electric vehicles and yes to gas stoves.

Yes, and IIRC, most of the law is already enjoined.

I’m guessing there is not enough of an issue not already covered by other lawsuits to merit a USSC intervention.

From a Leftist website:

Quotes - “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”
A quote from Chariman Mao Zedong.
Noted by:
shmoop.com ....

“This quote is rolled out by anti-gun control activists, who believe that keeping guns away from the people is a sign of the country shifting toward Communism.”

“If voting made any difference they wouldn’t allow us to do it. “

(most sources decided “nonattributable” rather than accept Mark Twain as the source.)
