FOX News personality Geraldo Rivera backed President Biden’s push for an “assault weapons” ban and said that the “AR” in AR-15 stands for “automatic rifle” on Tuesday’s The Five.
Newsweek quoted Rivera telling the co-hosts, “I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, there is no legitimate reason … to have an AR-15.”
He described the AR-15 as a “machine gun” that people own in order to make them feel “macho.”

From the company website:
“The AR-1 was one of the first rifles produced at Armalite’s location in Hollywood, CA.”
The insufferable POS drops the ball again.
Doesn’t he ever do any research? Does he always talk out of his a@@-hole?
Jerry Rivera stumbles again. 😆
A great many of them are in my family. The less I talk to them about anything, the happier I am, for various reasons. But I can’t totally shun them. Then they want to know if I’m mad at them, or if anything’s wrong, and they bother me even more. Lately, they’ve mostly become little old ladies, and you don’t want to hurt the feelings of a little old lady. That’s terrible. A few of them visited me in Nahariya recently, and I steered the conversation away from anything that might cause them to aggravate me, and was polite and affable, and glad when they left.
Not quite right; AR = ARmalite (see post #66 for a list of ArmaLite products that received AR-model numbers, but were definitely NOT rifles ;>)
That’s what good old Google is telling the world. They’re being evil.
Correct. Even Gutfeld, who asked GR what AR meant, didn’t know at that moment.
Of course they they googled it over the commercial break (which exceeds four full minutes on FNC every time) and then GR sheepishly muttered “Armalite” and moved right along to the next topic.
Thanks, I didn't know that - I stopped using Google years ago, when I learned that they 'cook' their search results. I've been doing business with ArmaLite for decades; the previous honcho (Mark Westrom) knew the company's history, and had a long-term advertising campaign based on "AR Stands For ArmaLite!" Simple, historical fact, and easy to remember! Unfortunately, the current owners are apparently corporate bean-counter types, and the company's products and customer service are (IMHO) not what they once were...
;>)
Thanks guys. Learnt me a new word!
In Geraldo’s case it means Anal Retentive.
Who is he? Is he important to us?
He actually claims to be a republican...hah!
well back then, they (the Government) wasn’t planning to take over the country!
so now they are and they want all guns confiscated.
In 2003, Rivera was traveling with the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army in Iraq as a war correspondent for Fox News and ended up making a huge tactical error — he drew a map in the sand during a live broadcast pinpointing his exact location and revealing the time and details of an upcoming operation. Although it had been originally thought Rivera would be expelled from the country for giving away sensitive, classified information, a deal was ultimately reached allowing him to leave on his own.
The best use of a pistol is to fight your way to a rifle. - Clint Smith
I Didn’t realize that.
Actually I prefer the U.S. Rifle, Caliber 7.62mm, M14. Fought with one in the ‘Nam. The M16/AR-15 rifle was over engineered by Eugene Stoner and is basically a piece of crap. Too many good Marines died in I corps because of that rifle malfuntioning and jamming in firefights. The M14 always worked, I was big and strong enough to hump the extra weight and ammo of the rifle. Regards. kawhill
It stands for Armalite Rifle - look it up.
Yeah I know
