FOX News personality Geraldo Rivera backed President Biden’s push for an “assault weapons” ban and said that the “AR” in AR-15 stands for “automatic rifle” on Tuesday’s The Five.
Newsweek quoted Rivera telling the co-hosts, “I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, there is no legitimate reason … to have an AR-15.”
He described the AR-15 as a “machine gun” that people own in order to make them feel “macho.”

“AR” stands for ArmaLite Rifle, using the company name of the first company to develop this configuration, and the patent rights were sold to Colt. The Colt AR-15 is the only genuine AR rifle, and they hold the copyright on the name, but as the patents expired, other manufacturers began production of “AR-style” rifles, under their own designations.
Still a selective-fire design, and there is no “automatic” to it.
Most people at Faux News are morons when it comes to firearms. Hannity commonly refers to AR-15s as assault rifles and no one corrects him. One of the reasons why I tuned that channel out.

There is no technological or engineering reason for a select fire Stoner Pattern rifle to cost any more or be any more scarce than a semi-auto only Stoner Pattern rifle. The extra cost and scarcity we face is purely the result of our Feral Government violating the Second Amendment and abusing us.
