“AR” stands for ArmaLite Rifle, using the company name of the first company to develop this configuration, and the patent rights were sold to Colt. The Colt AR-15 is the only genuine AR rifle, and they hold the copyright on the name, but as the patents expired, other manufacturers began production of “AR-style” rifles, under their own designations.

Still a selective-fire design, and there is no “automatic” to it.

As far as I ever understood select fire, it is: semi-auto (one trigger pull one projectile), 3 shot burst, and finally full auto. These require a huge sum of money to purchase and own because of the tax stamp (again, if I recall correctly about 10 grand), a massively long wait for a government colonoscopy and potential OK to purchase, then the actual purchase of said rare weapon that will cost a boatload of money also.
