Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem received a letter Thursday from the National Park Service rejecting her request for Independence Day fireworks at Mount Rushmore.
The Daily Caller first obtained the letter, which was sent by Michell Wheatley to Wanda Goodman, who works for the Governor at the South Dakota Department of Tourism. In the letter, Wheatley mentions that local tribes view the fireworks as an “adverse effect” on their traditional cultural views.
“Fireworks continue to be viewed by multiple Tribes as an adverse effect on the traditional cultural landscape,” Wheatley wrote in the letter. “This view was expressed by consulting Tribes in 2020 and has been reaffirmed by Tribal government representatives in subsequent meetings and letters.”
In 2021, Noem sent letters to three members of Congress from her state urging them for their assistance in making sure the fireworks display at Mount Rushmore does not get canceled under President Joe Biden’s administration.
Then, the Caller obtained three letters to the Republican lawmakers from South Dakota, including, Sen. John Thune, Sen. Mike Rounds, and Rep. Dusty Johnson, in which Noem explains the importance of the fireworks display and also details the economic benefits of having the firework display at Mount Rushmore.
Noem told the Caller that she was worried about the display being canceled, as they were under former President Barack Obama’s administration, saying she could use the help of Republican members of Congress from the state to make sure they are not canceled again.

Tell the government to piss off and have the fireworks anyway. They had them for years prior to someone named Karen having kittens over this.
Federal Handouts = Adverse Effects
Paved Roads = Adverse Effects
Electricity = Adverse Effects
Running Water = Adverse Effects
Medicare = Adverse Effects
Madicaid = Adverse Effects
Do it anyway! Let them protest with another Raindance, bring your own Tomahawks.
The reasons the Indians in South Dakota don't want a giant legal display is because they make a killing on illegal fireworks.
Do it anyway.
Lol! Wink wink.
“traditional cultural views”....I remember reading old documents about the Indians and their dancing and chanting and the horrible noises they made.
CusterbState Park or grasslands...can’t rember the exact name.
No. The Park Service didnt disapprove fireworks. A bureaucrat with a name and an address did. No “Govt Agency” ever does anything. The people in those agencies do things. They can be identified. And should be.
The Interior Dept. has become nothing but a leftist Dem enviro-freak IDE agency.
Teddy Roosevelt would be horrified to see what the National Parks Service has become.
“Traditional Cultural Landscape”
Yeah, tell ‘em to get bent. The Injuns sell fireworks on the Reservation, I’m pretty sure they love blowing $&@t up along with everyone else.
This is just made up nonsense by leftist quacks. Noem needs to grow a pair.
It’s a celebration of Independence Day - and you’re asking permission from some government wanker to do so. They say “No!”
LOL, our leaders are so feckless, with vanishingly few exceptions.
"EXCLUSIVE: National Parks Service [??? emphasis added] Denies Gov. Noem’s Request For Mt. Rushmore Fireworks Over ‘Adverse Effect’ On Local Tribes"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Why did Gov. Noem request permission for fireworks from non-popularly-elected bureaucrats running Parks Service?
After all, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention had expected popularly elected federal lawmakers to risk losing their offices by refusing permission for things like fireworks displays, especially when a state pays for it.
Certainly Congress can take a short break from making 4,155 page unconstitutional, unaccountable federal omnibus spending bills to keep the peacetime US Mail Service running (ahem) for a quick vote on a fireworks display that doesn't involve unconstitutional federal tax dollars.
"Article I, Section 8, Clause 7: To establish Post Offices and post Roads;"
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
In fact, patriots need to start making noise about ALL the states effectively "seceding" from the unconstitutionally big federal government by working with their MAGA state lawmakers to repeal the 16th (direct taxes) and 17th (popular voting for federal senators) Amendments (16&17A).
If the repeal 16&17A amendment were strictly limited to that purpose, then relatively little, or ideally no discussion would be needed before ratification imo.
Show us the letters from the tribes objecting to the fireworks.
I don’t know why you call the Navajo the most patriotic Indians.

From a letter by John Adams to Abigail Adams (July 3, 1776):
But the Day is past. The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America.That is the "cultural landscape."I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

Just do it. Dare them to stop you.
Call out the Guard if you have to.

In troubled times, it is dangerous to be ‘low-hanging fruit.’
“Got to be some state land nearby. Shoot them off from there.”
AAAAaand, with Rushmore in the back!
SHE IS FINE! Don’t be such a quitter.
