The Hill predicts DeSantis will beat Trump for nomination

The Hill predicted Sunday that Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis will secure the 2024 GOP presidential nomination with former President Donald Trump as the runner-up contender.

DeSantis was picked as the top candidate for his double-digit reelection during the midterms and what The Hill calls "his embrace of culture war issues and his opposition to COVID-19–related lockdowns."

Explaining why Trump was ranked as the second most likely 2024 nominee, the outlet said: "Trump would have been the runaway favorite had these rankings been drawn up the day before the midterm elections. Since then, virtually everything the president has touched has turned bad."

Trump's controversial dinner with the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and nationalist commentator Nick Fuentes, along with what it called a "lackluster" campaign launch are reasons why The Hill predicts the former president may not be the nominee again.

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is considered the third-most likely person to be the 2024 presidential nominee, according to The Hill.

Trump and DeSantis have both been considered top contenders in multiple polls, although DeSantis has not launched a formal presidential campaign.

December's Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll showed that nearly twice as many GOP voters would support Trump over DeSantis in the primary. However, a USA Today-Suffolk University poll released days earlier showed 56% of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters supported DeSantis compared to 33% who supported Trump.

DeSantis IS a neocon, how much of a globalist he is or isn’t remains to be seen. He’s good on some domestic issues, so let him stay in Florida.

“If Trump is not the nominee, his loyal supporters will certainly get behind DeSantis. Versis Biden or one of the other idiots - of course.”

If DeSantis runs then I will most likely vote Libertarian, my aversion to neocons being that strong.

Agree with that, but we Trump supporters believe he learned his lesson.

What makes you think he's learned his lesson?

And on this point, why should we champion the guy who promises he's "learn his lesson" and is going to do all the stuff in his next term that he said he was going to do the first time around but didn't?

Or we could get behind DeSantis who is doing all of the stuff that Trump only tweeted about doing while still managing to get re-elected in a massive, massive landslide?

I’m only reporting on what others say here and elsewhere. I think the key is to get Trump to team up with DeSantis, in some way (either formally or informally), and then all the votes will be unified. But if it’s contentious, then the division will remain...regardless of what I say.

I don’t pay much attention to what The Swill has to say about anything.

It would make more sense to see id DeSantis is going to run before predicting he will win.

Anyhow, if Trump runs on a third party ticket, he'll be soundly defeated and that'll be the end of him. It'll be his legacy.

I think he needs to focus his time and money on building a presidential library in Florida.

Sure next time one posts I will call them out. As I do every time. No. I don’t keep a list or track. Better things to do with my tilt like support election integrity, ridding your party of RINOS keeping up to date on electoral fraud in AZ and recovering from Ian. Oh and fully supporting and always defending President Donald Trump from jackasses

DeSantis is going to have have to come up with 90 million votes and that still might not be enough. The GOP is hated as much as the Democrats by millions of Trump voters. The tacit support of open borders, the sending of billions to the Ukraine, and continued turning a blind eye to deep state and election corruption kills the GOP with Trump voters.

You and all the other never trumpers are full of crap.

I drive by rallies every week on various bridges around the San Francisco Bay Area, hardly a bastion of red votes.

I know of zero Trump voters who can’t wait to work for his re-election, while you pretend another reality exists , for whatever lame reason .

No one wants Ron DeSantis to run this time, period.

We want him and our hairdo governor to go at because we belive Newsom is lame.

Maybe you all are Henny Penny or you really do have an agenda.

In any case, you are ungrateful

“If DeSantis runs then I will most likely vote Libertarian, my aversion to neocons being that strong.”

Please inform us what actions, statements or positions DeSantis provides that shows he is a neocon.

Yes, vote Libertarian and split the Republican or Conservative vote and give the presidency to Biden and/or his ilk. You are worse than your nemisis, the neocons.

Your logic is perfect. Because someone supports someone and gives them money means that the someone is automatically disqualified. If I send you some money, will that eliminate you from Free Republic?

““The best thing Desantis can do for his political future is to come out and say he’s definitely not running in 2024 and do that soon. “

At the same time announce that he supports Trump 100%”

You just have the names backward.

“You and all the other never trumpers are full of crap.”

Any time someone brings a valid criticism of Trump, you call them a Never Trumper. How convenient. Trump is human and makes mistakes. Pointing one out does not make for a never trumper.
Name calling is a sure sign of a weak argument.
