The popular weight loss drug Wegovy is now available to children as young as 12.
Danish manufacturer Novo Nordisk announced that the Food and Drug Administration had extended the drug's approval to include children. It had previously received regulatory approval for use in adults last year.
In clinical trials, teens aged 12 to 17 who took the weekly injection lost 14 percent of their body weight over 64 weeks. This nearly matches the trials for adults, where recipients lost 15 percent of their weight after 68 weeks.
Wegovy, and its sister drug Ozempic, have rocketed to popularity in 2022 because of their unprecedented success assisting in weight loss. Tech mogul Elon Musk credited it for his body transformation, and there are rumors Hollywood stars like Kim Kardashian also used it.
'The prevalence of teen obesity in the U.S. continues to rise, affecting teens and their families. Now, more than ever, we need new options to support teens,' Dr Aaron Kelly, a pediatric obesity expert at the University of Minnesota, said in a statement.

The teens started with an average weight of 235lbs. In the group the used Wegovy, an average of 33lbs were lost across the 16 month trial.
A third of teens that used the drug managed to lose at least one-fifth of their overall body weight.

Yeah. Tortillas! They look so innocent, but are pretty bad. I buy Keto hot dog and hamburger buns, but can’t seem to find just Keto bread.
I love love love potatoes.
I love love pasta.
I like rice.
But they’re pretty much out of my diet now. (Is life worth living, really? LOL!)
Now that the holidays are over, I can more easily get back on track.
The interesting thing is that after six months of no carb, followed by six months of low carb, my blood panel was the worst it’s been in my life! When I saw it I had to laugh.
She complains incessantly about her health problems (due to weight) and the money she spends to deal with it. Her doctor is trying her on new BP meds that are exorbitant and she is worried.
I suggested that keto might solve that BP problem--it worked for me (she has already started walking every day).
Same for me blood panel-wise. Quite scary actually.
I stopped drinking alcohol about 5 years ago and don't really enjoy the food I eat so I would certainly admit that life isn't nearly as much fun.
But I am healthy FWIW.;-)
I wish some scientist would invent some really tasty low carb food and alcohol that wasn't addictive and didn't cause hangovers.
I would love an endless stream of dirty olive martinis and a giant plate of sesame noodles with a side of Fettuccini Alfredo. And garlic bread!!!
Ozempic didn’t work for me. I want to sue someone. I want to sue everyone. I want to sue you.
There’s a lawyer for that! 1-800-Dewey Cheat’em and Howe!
Ha... exactly the same thing they said about “the vaccines”.
Interesting. On the Wegovy website it states this:
It is not known if Wegovy™ is safe and effective for use in children under 18 years of age.
We have a pill for that now.
You’re correct, and I hate our society…
Portion size is the reason for the fat pandemic. Fast food menu sizes offer too much high fat and salt for proper human diet.
If you are forced to consume fast food, order the small burger and small size fry and drink water. DO NOT order the #1 or whatever menu option is listed. Too many calories to burn off by a motionless lifestyle.

Oh. STOP! You’re making me drool. Everything you said ...
