Former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin testified before the House select committee investigating the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, that he had discussed invoking the 25th Amendment with then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, contradicting the nation's former top diplomat.
"Do you recall talking to Secretary Pompeo in General Milley's presence about the 25th Amendment?" the committee asked him, per the Washington Examiner. The line of inquiry became public when the committee released the transcripts of 34 of its interviews earlier this month.
"I mean, I do recall speaking to Secretary Pompeo about the 25th Amendment," was Mnuchin's reply. "I don't recall it being in that circumstance, and I surely don't recall that I stopped the conversation when General Milley came up... [the amendment] came up very briefly in our conversation." Pompeo has denied discussing the 25th Amendment, per the outlet.
"[We] both believed that the best outcome was a normal transition of power, which was working, and neither one of us contemplated in any serious format the 25th Amendment," he continued.
Section Four of the 25th Amendment allows for the cabinet to remove the president from office should the vice president and a majority of its members deem him unfit to serve. Mnuchin was one of the few original Trump cabinet members to serve throughout his entire term.
The Jan. 6 committee released its final report in December after spending more than one year conducting high-profile public hearings and numerous interviews into the events of that day. The report heavily criticized former President Donald Trump for allegedly calling for a violent insurrection to keep himself in power. Its members unanimously voted to issue criminal referrals to the Department of Justice against the former president earlier this month.

Gotta know a lot more than that.
I’ve discussed the 25th Amendment - especially how silly it was to consider it as an alternative to impeachment when the left was running around panting about it.
RE: contradicting his denial
Meaning “lied.”
.
It’s just amazing beyond all belief with Joe speaking in gibberish and saying the night before he spoke to people dead for 20 yrs that the 25th amendment doesn’t lead the News everyday, and there hasn’t been a single utterance of its use with Sniffin’ Joe.
Uniparty bast@rds.
.
"normal", uh-huh.
At this point it’s all hair salon gossip.
It’s really hard to believe just how deep the evil goes in our government. Even Trump’s administration was actively working to undermine him. The illegal, unelected shadow government was in charge. Trump never had an ounce of power despite winning the election. Our government has been captured and we don’t even know who is really in charge.
Absolutely agree.
They think Joe is just fine....
Biden told the campaign crowd “I’m Joe Biden and I’m running for US Senator” and at the White House looked around pathetically while calling to Jackie Walorski, a woman who had died (and for whom Biden had read a memorial statement.) And who wanders in a bewildered daze when he leaves the podium when he finishes reading the teleprompter instructions such as “end of page, next page” aloud.
Add Steve Mnuchin to the list: Barr, Pence, Mulvaney, Bolton, Wray, Milley, Fauci etc etc.
.
Excellent point.
… in other words everyone Trump picked is an enemy of Trump? Not a good situation.
Everyone Trump selected that would get through Mitch, his #1 enemy, is an enemy of Trump? Say it ain’t so.
His interim picks(ones that did not need Mitch’s okay) were generally excellent.
Ok what was the discussion?
Yet another reason republicans are the stupid party.
Saying that it was “discussed” is too vague to conclude anything. It could have been “Did you hear people mentioning the 25th Amendment? Sounds like a bad idea to me.” “Yup, I agree”. Doesn’t sound like either Pompeo or Mnunchin thought it was a good idea, so who cares?
My question also....Of course things get discussed...that’s what we do...toss things around..doesn’t mean we’re taking sides....UNTIL...we take sides.
Take a gooood look at the “signature” of Mnuchin as US Treasurer. That is one bizarre printed childlike scrawl. It is NOT a signature... it cannot be. But it is on our Federal Reserve provided “currency”. Also keep in mind that Mnuchin accompanied McConnell to go inside Fort Know and they both came out and said “yep, the gold is still there!” Hilarious.
They didn’t audit it—they did showbiz bullcrap, and photo session in front of pile of bricks, gold they said.
With “friends” like this, who needs “enemies?”
Pompeo is a neocon.
How can you call the Republican party stupid?
It got exactly what it wanted.
I got rid of Trump while at the same time thwarting everything it wanted stopped.
That's not stupidity, that's evil genius.
The true stupidity lays with those of us who actually believe[d] that the Republican party had/has the best interests of this nation and its citizenry at heart.
Spoiler Alert
IT DOES NOT !!
