Is Trump now forced to run third-party?
HILL ^ | 12/24/2022 | DOUGLAS MACKINNON, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

Posted on 12/24/2022 10:34:31 AM PST by ChicagoConservative27

At a certain point, all decisions and election chances in politics come down to basic math. No matter how some consultants, pollsters or campaign managers may attempt to complicate the process to justify their fees or salaries paid by a candidate or company, it still comes down to this: Does the math finish on the “plus side” for him or her to run, and does it finish on the plus side for the candidate to win?

My mother used to say, “If you can read, you can cook.” In the arena of political elections, if you can do basic addition and subtraction, you can honestly advise a candidate whether to run. Former President Donald Trump has some of that basic math working against him — but also, for him.

What he and his mercurial ego really will do becomes the political question of the 2024 presidential cycle.

With each passing week, there are reports of more and more Republicans suffering from “Trump fatigue.” Although many still strongly approve of most of Trump’s policies from his four years in the White House, they have grown increasingly tired of his perceived juvenile antics and insults. Worse for Trump, many now blame him for the GOP losing the chance to take control of the Senate — not only in the November midterms, when he forced marginal candidates on the party with his endorsements, but also back in 2021 when he suppressed GOP voter turnout with negative comments and attacks in Georgia’s runoff election.

Actually, not any more. We hurt either way. At this point I don't care.

If the entire system is rigged to make us lose, it does not matter any more.

"Start a third maga party and let forth the dogs of war."

I'm for that 100%. The naysayers for a third party don't even want to try. I say try it, and see what happens. At least you tried, even if you fail.

I don’t get what he is saying. He would have gone third party in 2021 if he thought he could win.

I’m with you on that. I realized it in 2020.

Trump failed to drain the swamp.

I’ll take DeSantis or someone like that over any democrat any day.

Trump running as a 3rd party will only ensure a democrat holds the office for at least 4 more years.

If Trump cannot win the republican party in 2024, he cannot win the American voters. If he runs and helps democrats, he will continually be hated by democrats, RINOs, but he will add people like me that have supported him in the past.

I have voted for him and supported him in the past but he’s not worth throwing it all away for. If he thinks he is, I am done with him forever.

Run and win as an R or don’t run.

Elections are as corrupted as literally everything else in this horrid, detestable nation.

Trump has the means to do what we all should do…if only we had the means…get out of this land as quickly as possible. There is no saving this.

Who else is going to run? They hate DiSantas as much as they hate Trump.

I can’t support Mitch McConnell and anyone who supports him.
I will follow Trump.

Justice Thomas will likely retire after this term. We need a Republican in office to handle his replacement. That should be the number 1 priority right now.

Pretty sure that The Backstab Party DELIBERATELY gave away the Senate seats in Georgia AND Arizona.

This guy makes me laugh with his talk of "marginal candidates", after The JoeTatoe, Uncle Festerman and Basement Katie Hobbs.

It is going to take time to place people in positions of power who actually LOVE the ideals of America as founded.

I would support a new party. I think that MAGA would work.

It respects the reality that greatness requires never ending efforts to strive for the best we can be.

I could do a little study and come out with all the policy changes, and bureaucracy erasures needed to start the journey, as could many FReepers. POTUS Trump could make a good start by building a coalition that would destroy the Republicans, and totally remake the Democrat party as they would be unhindered on the way to madness.

The downside is, we will be ceding power to the Demons for what seems permanently. In reality though, have we not already done so? They control their side, and they control our side. What do you FRiends think of this?

Every single time it comes down to an impasse with Dems, our GOP traitors give the left the votes. Every single time. Republicans killed the nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court. That ensured that Trump had an additional nomination, which the GOP also rammed through despite unanimous Democrat opposition. So that's your first set of examples of why having a GOP majority matters.

You may also remember that the original stimulus bill the Democrats tried to push through originally was nearly 6 trillion dollars. Republican opposition to that is what got it knocked down to less than two trillion, at which point Mansion flipped and gave them enough votes to get that through. But they would have asked the much larger one much earlier if not for Republican opposition.

And finally, it was Republican opposition that killed the Democrats' last minute attempt for mass amnesty of illegals.

So that is three gigantic issues contradict your claim that Republicans side with Democrats "every time".

I agree that it’s a top priority but WINNING back the White House should be the #1 priority. If it’s Trump, fine. But if not Trump, it has to be a republican. We cannot let them hold that office unchecked for another four more years.

Trump is going to hit every one of his Republican opponents with the rigged and stolen election theme..

Each and every one of them will have to go on the record for all to see, if they believe Trump was robbed or not..

MAGA voters will take notice and notes.

The Rs that say he wasn’t..
The R’s that say that’s in the past, let’s focus on Biden or the next election...
Are Swamp..

They can’t help it.
Those that say he was robbed, what makes them think they won’t get robbed too?

They can’t win vs. Trump and his aggrieved status.. Trump isn’t the bully. Trump’s the victim this time..

2024 is going to be a rehash of 2020 election..

And the Rs that jump into that are going to go head to head against MAGA.
Not just Trump

And those Rs are not going to able to move on from 2020.
Because Trump isn’t in the White House today because of 2020 stolen election.
It’s why the country is the way it is today..

Good luck to them..

In what universe does Trump running as a third party candidate against both a Democrat and a Republican have a snowball's health chance of winning?? The MAGA and non-MAGA factions of the GOP combined only have an outside shot.

You guys need to quit deluding yourself that there is some magical silent majority out there that secretly adores Trump. It doesn't exist. That's maybe 25% of the electorate, max.

If Trump is the nominee the GOP will back a third candidate just to keep Trump from winning.

They (Dems) are already getting their way with RINO help. I’m at the point of thinking we are worse off by electing the likes of Murkowski, Collins, Romney, etc. than Democrats. Is our team even slowing the Democrat agenda?
