Is Trump now forced to run third-party?
HILL ^ | 12/24/2022 | DOUGLAS MACKINNON, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

Posted on 12/24/2022 10:34:31 AM PST by ChicagoConservative27

At a certain point, all decisions and election chances in politics come down to basic math. No matter how some consultants, pollsters or campaign managers may attempt to complicate the process to justify their fees or salaries paid by a candidate or company, it still comes down to this: Does the math finish on the “plus side” for him or her to run, and does it finish on the plus side for the candidate to win?

My mother used to say, “If you can read, you can cook.” In the arena of political elections, if you can do basic addition and subtraction, you can honestly advise a candidate whether to run. Former President Donald Trump has some of that basic math working against him — but also, for him.

What he and his mercurial ego really will do becomes the political question of the 2024 presidential cycle.

With each passing week, there are reports of more and more Republicans suffering from “Trump fatigue.” Although many still strongly approve of most of Trump’s policies from his four years in the White House, they have grown increasingly tired of his perceived juvenile antics and insults. Worse for Trump, many now blame him for the GOP losing the chance to take control of the Senate — not only in the November midterms, when he forced marginal candidates on the party with his endorsements, but also back in 2021 when he suppressed GOP voter turnout with negative comments and attacks in Georgia’s runoff election.

Political success produces RINOS. In general, once a professional politician gets to 10 years in office no matter how sound they are in conservative principles they start to forget who their constituents were - the people who originally brought them “to the dance”. The people who are in their office\face all the time the lobbyists, “special interest spokespeople”, fund raisers, etc. become their constituents. Many don’t even realize it’s happening, many arrive already aware of it, many just give in to it; besides it will likely make them rich so why not accept it. Politics as a career is an ‘unstable’ game they have families (sometimes ‘extended’ like the Bidens!) who need to be clothed, sheltered and fed. After 10 years it’s time to exploit the opportunity! The ‘system’ as a consequence produces RINOs. So I say after 10 years or so time to send them home!

This is why term limits are necessary. It doesn’t eliminate the corruption as long as you deal with humans you will have it. It simply disrupts it and makes it more complex and expensive for the corrupter.

Repel the 17th Amendment!
The state legislatures can’t do worse!

How many hardcore supporters of Biden, DeSantis, Youngkin, Haley are out there? You're "deluding" yourself if you think any of those people have more "hardcore" support.

Again, I defined "hardcore" as being unwilling to vote for anyone except your preferred candidate, and being willing to support your guy if he runs third party. That metric isn't relevant for the other candidates because there's no chance they wouldn't support whoever the nominee is, or that will run third party of they don't get the GOP nomination. So personally, as someone who has a huge preference for DeSantis at this point, I would not consider myself a hardcore supporter under that definition because I'm going to vote for the GOP nominee, and I wouldn't support DeSantis in a third party candidacy.

But that is a relevant metric in this thread given that this thread raises the specific possibility of Trump running as a third party candidate, and also because there are a fair number of Trump supporters in this very thread who have said they won't support any other candidate but him.

because I'm going to vote for the GOP nominee,

Even if it's Liz Cheney, or Romney?

There should be ranked choice voting for President. And none of the above.

I always thought he should have declared a 3rd party after 2020 steal. The GOP doesn’t deserve to exist. Could have taken out 50% of the problem.

We The People were robbed in 2020. There can be no collusion with those who robbed us. These RINOs need to go.

They made deals with the Democrat half of the Uniparty in 2020 and 2022 and will certainly do it in 2024. It's time to draw the line, set the boundary, and support President Trump along with the other MAGA candidates.

“If it’s not Trump, it really doesn’t matter who it is.”

If that is the case, electing Trump only delays the inevitable.

You’re very right. Once the court is stacked, we are pretty much done for. The America of my youth, warts and all, was a pretty good place to live and raise a family. That is darn near gone now, and a progressive SCOTUS would drive the final nail into the Land of the Free’s casket.

I just don’t see how we win this with the team we have, and I have no idea how to fix it. With a MAGA party—and believe me, I have posted against a third party for as long as I can remember—at least the choices will be clear.

It would be a catastrophe for Trump to run 3rd party. A guaranteed victory for the left.

The left already has a guaranteed victory in the 2024 "elections". They have convincingly demonstrated in the last two national elections that they control a margin of fraud that assures their candidates will always win any race they consider important.

"How people vote does not matter. Who counts the votes is what matters".

We have done nothing to change the system that produces guaranteed Democrat victories. It is now just a game show to distract people and slow opposition. Our political authorities are chosen by that "loose affiliation of millionaires and billionaires" described by the songwriter. The process is totally opaque to the common citizens.

Moreover, we cannot control "our own" political party and defeat the Karl Roves, Paul Ryans, and Romneys. McConnell and McCarthy are still in their positions of authority. Nothing can change unless and until all these people are gone. We have no effective means to do that in the current system. Old age is the only sure prospect we have for their departures.

The problem is that our assigned rulers hate us and want us enslaved or dead. We are past the point where that problem will be solved by elections.

Yes, I will vote for Trump, whether he runs as a Republican or as third-party candidate. It is a sentimental thing. I am not expecting much in the way of good results.

I plan to stay out of the way as things get "interesting".

This will be bigger than Teddy’s Bullmoose Party—BUT if election are fixed—it doesn’t matter. Even if 98% of the vote Trump—The Democrat will always win. How long does it take to xerox off a Billion Ballots? They will do a Kari Lake on him. The Republic is done. I think—a new party would be a good start—a new glitzy party with lots of hope. Not a third Party—a New second Party. Let is reduce the GOP to the loser party it has become. I would like to see this:
Democrat Party Harris-Hillary
Republican Party Liz Chenney- Mit Romney
Liberty Party Donald Trump- Kari Lake

The Democrats will win but when they do—it will be time to make the Bonney Blue Flag and think of making a new United States—a CSA Constitutional States of America.

Split the vote? The GOP will lose in a fix election anyway? A few of the “Right Republicans: (RINOS all) will be permitted to win to make the Sheeple think they still live in a Free Republic—but it died a long time ago. I am angry that this once great land has been reduced to this. I fear that if WW III Starts—this one we will not win.

I thoroughly believe if the US ever gets into another war like WWII, the most likely result will be a Civil War here, so we won’t even be able to fight.

I don’t recall the last national election in which a third party helped anyone but the Democrats.

"And when you only get one shot every four years, wasting it on something that has no chance of success is dumb."

How do you know you can't win, if you don't even try? Only a fool sits back and accepts the status quo, without trying to change things. Republicans in Congress have been doing that for years by letting Democrats walk all over them...they go along to get along. Where has that got us? Besides, it really won't matter anyway, because Democrats will continue to steal elections with impunity, because nobody, not even Republican members of Congress are willing to fight to keep your vote safe from fraud. All I know is that the GOP will never be reformed if people are willing to hold their nose, and vote for an asshole with an R behind their name, simply to keep the seat Republican. Keep voting for the uni-party, and you'll get the same old thing.

Scum like Romney and McCain agree with you 75% of the time?

Those were just 2 of the previous R Presidential candidates that Trump exposed as scum..

Yet Trump endorsed both of these gentlemen.
