It seems out of the ordinary because it has been a while since it was so cold at Christmas. It seems to me the “problem” with so many Christmases over the last twenty years is that they weren’t white Christmases in areas of the country where snow occurs, which is most of the U.S.A. A few were more like Easter.

But then again, some Easters that year were more like Christmas than Christmas, in terms of the weather.

But it isn’t as if this hasn’t happened before. I can remember some Christmases featuring sheets of ice.

I used to go to St. Patrick’s Day parades in NYC. Some years I’d last about five minutes it was so cold and would have to head to the bar. Other years, I’d have to head to a bar and hope they were running the air conditioning. Some years I was lucky and it was very comfortable, but even those years would range between comfortable requiring a heavy Irish wool sweater over a shirt and others requiring a light fabric green long-sleeve T shirt with outer sweater tied about my waist.

I remember my grandmother telling us the hottest summer in NY she could remember was in 1947, same year as the blizzard of century. From one extreme to another in a matter of months. 30 yrs later a similar phenomenon. Months after a bitterly could winter in 1977 where one day snow was on the ground as far south as Tampa


That same year we had a scorching hot summer in NY. Almost every day in July and August temps topped 90F. There were a couple of days when temps topped 100F in parts of the Catskills which is usually unheard of. That's when the enLIEronmentalists who up to that point were pushing global cooling flipped the script. Eventually they just resorted to calling it man made climate change.

I like to read nineteenth-century pioneer memoirs and history. There are all kinds of accounts of extreme weather and people who got lost in it and who were not found until the spring thaw. I read somewhere some speculation that the bison herds in Illinois might have been wiped out when they were stuck in deep snow or starved by lack of food one particularly harsh winter.

Back to some of the “old-fashioned” winter weather we used to have. It’s “weather” - climate change, global warming is a wealth distribution scheme. The elites screaming about climate change give the game away when they fly around in their private jets and object to wind farms in their backyard and dine on Wagyu beef, to name a few areas where they are absolute, total hypocrites.

The changing climate is mostly naturally driven by a periodically quiet sun and periodically more active outer core (as seen in the magnetic field movements and anomalies). The results are the fluctuations that you’re seeing. They’ll eventually pass.

Watching the local tv weather reports about the latest “Bomb cyclone hurricane volcano storm etc”... that water is wet, and when it gets cold, it turns into a slippery substance called “ice”. They also tell what to wear, what to carry with you, the best time to walk your dog, the best coffee to drink
etc...
How I’ve managed to live my entire 65 years in the Northeast without this information I’ll never know.
