Record lows shattered in Montana, Wyoming

The bitter cold accompanying this powerful winter storm broke some long-standing record lows for parts of Montana and Wyoming. Casper, Wyoming, saw its coldest day ever on Thursday as temps plummeted to a bone-chilling 42 degrees F below. It was also a Casper record for Dec. 22, with the old record of 33 below set in 1983. Other areas breaking records Thursday included Riverton, Wyoming, which dropped to 31 degrees below, shattering a 24-year record.

I once experienced -40F in a small town well north of Montreal. Good God...that’s *cold*!

I’m sitting here in So Cal and it’s almost 70 degrees. Xmas day is expected to be 80 here.

Lost heat and electricity. My family lived in a hotel for 5 days.

Thankfully, no damage to the house and my hedges came back in 2022.

I remember it well.

We’ve warmed up a quite a bit here, to a balmy -4°F. A chinook is supposed to start coming in overnight, bringing it up to 28°F and all the way to 38°F on Monday. Time to break out the shorts and t-shirt!

We run bison and they do fine in this weather. Our barn cats are kept warm.
