Most of New York is going to have a dreary Christmas weekend.
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday declared a state of emergency for the entirety of New York in preparation for the massive storm that’s forecast to wallop the Northeast over the holiday weekend.
The measure will go into effect at 6 a.m. Friday when Winter Storm Elliott — dubbed a “once-in-a-generation” weather event by the National Weather Service — is expected to bear down on the area.

They have been using the term “bomb cyclone” for around 5 years. They used to be called nor-easters.
I’m 20 miles south of Boston and it’s 57 degrees and sunny. It was supposed to be a horrific day.
Wow, over the top. Here I am in Chicago and nothing has occurred that would warrant such hyperbole. We got a few inches, maybe 2. The weather man said 3 to 8. Its cold. But its also Chicago. We do cold. Happens every year. I have a home in norther Wisconsin. They too had cold and about three inches. But yes its Wisconsin. If we don’t get at least a foot a month its global warming. This is hype not weather forecasting.
We’re pretty miserable in PA. Temps went from near 50 last night to single digits now and may remain in single digits until Sunday morning.
It was snowing hard this morning, then raining, and within an hour the temp dropped by ten degrees and the wet roads all became icy roads.
Should be a brutal weekend.
