The arctic blast rocking the country is expected to reach its highest intensity on Friday, producing what the National Weather Service (NWS) is describing as “widespread disruptions” heading into the holiday weekend as over half the U.S. population finds itself under a winter storm warning, watch, or advisory.
The blizzard, dubbed Winter Storm Elliott, has triggered dramatic temperature drops across the U.S., with some cities seeing temperatures plummet 40 degrees in less than an hour, smashing records.

When I spent two winters in St. Paul the car windshield wouldn’t even bother frosting over until about 15 or 20 below.
We ate dinner with friends at a fine restaurant last night. It was -4 outside while we were dining.
My advice to you is do what the guy at the next table did — wear shorts. I kid you not. During dinner, the guy was wearing cut-off jeans with bare legs from the knees down. I was so shocked by the sight that I forgot to look for Birkenstocks on his feet. I wonder if he lost a bet.
We were seated not far from the front door and I swear the restaurant wasn’t much warmer than that -4.
Football game last night in Fort Worth kicked off at 13 degrees. TV said coldest bowl game ever was the Bluegrass Bowl at 12 degrees. It's probably part of why they don't have the Bluegrass Bowl anymore.
Only 18 degrees outside Auburn...
For the next week, in my corner of Arizona it’s going to be about 60-65 degrees, sunny with cobalt blue skies.
Up here by Gaylord about 7 inches and windy. But nothing we haven’t seen many times before. Yet.
Tomorrow is supposed to be the wild day.
bttt!
here in Detroit, they missed it bad snow wise....we got half an inch total..if that. winds are gusting around 40 mph at times, but mostly not too bad..there were saying 60 mph gusts. Local news cracks me up...they will not admit it when they get it wrong...the one weather guy at noon actually said that it DID snow, its just that “the winds blew it around”....lol...i guess the wind also made it disappear, cuz we didnt even get an inch....
plus..next week, 5 straight days of 50’s!!!..ill take it...
i saw it was 21 degrees in Biloxi Mississippi!!...21 degrees and the wind coming off that Gulf....MAN!!!
The most punchable face from the beginning of time until today
5 degrees in Oklahoma City with a -25 wind chill yesterday - tomorrow it will be back to normal 15/30 and hitting high 40’s over the next week - my bird feeders are still relatively full. I hope the birds and other little critters are ok. One thing is you don’t hear the constant barking of the neighbors dogs. He finally let them inside - - jerk
FEAR ME!
I think they named it Elliot after the character in Leverage. He packed a punch!
Elliott
Isn't that the truth??
I have a feral Siamese snowshoe cat that accidentally got out end of July. She is still around but refuses to come back in. Too clever to be trapped. I think she is living in the neighbors collapsed barn, my lean to and an old fox’s den. I put food out for her every morning. We have windchills of -12 right now.
