A fire broke out on the flagship of the Russian Navy, according to local media reports.
The blaze started on the Admiral Kuznetsov, Russia's only aircraft carrier, while it was docked at the Zvyozdochka shipyard in the Barents Sea port city of Murmansk, located in the far north-west of Russia, news agency Tass said.
An emergency services source told the agency on Thursday morning that 20 people had been evacuated, the fire was extinguished and that "there were no casualties."

Meanwhile, the Chicoms are steaming ahead.
It’s very stronk design...

“The vessel has been the scene of other mishaps. In October 2018 Russia’s biggest floating dry dock, PD-50, sank, causing one of its 70-ton cranes to crash onto the ship’s flight deck, causing a large hole.
In December 2019 two crew died and more than a dozen were injured following a fire that started in the hold that also caused an estimated $8 million worth of damage.”
They should change the name to Christine.
I do not believe that there is any comparison between the U.S. Navy and Russian in terms of safety and damage control. We have problems, theirs are orders of magnitude worse.
Maybe true during the Cold War, not today.
Can you point to TWO of Russia’s latest warships being rammed by slow tankers due to incompetent bridge watch standers?
That is, failing the most basic test of navigational competence, much less dodging salvos of incoming missiles?
Correct.
For a while at least, Soviet subs could be detected by the radiation they spit off due to terrible shielding.
The sailors were called “glow boys”.
With todays anti ship technology, I don’t want to be anywhere near one of their ships or ours. IMO, todays aircraft carriers are WWIIs battleships. Huge targets.
Last I heard it was not repairable, and they would practically have to gut the ship and rebuild the entire thing
Russians have become famous for smoking around flammable and explosive stuff, which the expected results.
However, there are many “incidents” involving fire and explosions all across Russia that are suspected to be sabotage. Adm. K could be another of those “incidents”.
Still a great mobile airfield for bombing pre-industrial types. That's why the USA needs so many.
Did this happen once before. This sounds like a repeat incident or report?
On fire again, and again, and again. Result of a country with second rate economy trying to be a military superpower
It is awfully nice of the Russians to burn their only aircraft carrier so the Ukrainians don’t have to do it for them!
Around Chicago, it is called “Greek Lighting”.
The russians can’t get anything for it in the used market and would like to collect some insurance money before it sinks on its own.
Happens sometimes
Since the collisions and Flag firings, the Surface Navy has tighten its standards on shiphandling....Department Heads/ XOs and COs are required to take shiphandling tests in the simulator....3 strikes and your out...a few folks have lost their CDR Commands due to failing the exam....still a LONG way to go but improving.
Ukranian lightning?
