I was a member of a union for many years. Whenever there was a contract vote, I had to show ID at the door. PLUS someone working the door had to personally vouch for me.

Note that Section 2 of the 14th Amendment, a penalty for states where ballot box tampering has been committed, doesn't say anything preemptive actions against alleged racial motives.

"14th Amendment, Section 2: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State." In other words, the NC Supreme Court is arguably violating the catch-all "in any way abridged" wording in that section with its decision against voter ID imo.

In fact, none of the voting rights amendment, especially the 15th Amendment, mention anything anything about preemptive actions against alleged motives.

An astonishingly bad ruling that absolutely spits in the face of the rule of law. Courts are supposed to defer to the legislature, not question its integrity or intent. Either the law violates the constitution or it does not. In this case, how can voter ID possibly be racist? Are minorities prevented from getting IDs? If anything, the court itself is racist in that it believes minorities are just too stupid to get a photo ID. Now THAT is insulting!
