A Biden admin official recently told members of Congress that Ukraine has the military capability to take back Crimea

A Biden administration official recently told members of Congress that Ukraine has the military capability to retake Crimea, but some officials are concerned any large-scale offensive that threatens Russia’s hold on the peninsula could push Vladimir Putin to use nuclear weapons, say two U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

The late November Ukraine briefing to some members of Congress included discussion of the reasons Ukraine will continue to need U.S. weapons and equipment for the foreseeable future. The two officials said a Biden official, when asked during the briefing about continued support for the Ukrainian military and whether it would try to retake Crimea, responded that Ukraine now has the ability to take it back.

Asked about the response, a U.S. official said that Ukraine has no near-term objective to retake Crimea and that a military offensive is not imminent but did acknowledge that Ukraine has shown resilience and perseverance throughout the war. Administration officials say they believe three recent deadly drone strikes against Russian military bases were carried out by Ukrainians, although they say it’s still not clear whether the Zelenskyy government ordered them directly.

Washington and other governments have provided Kyiv with more powerful weapons, including HIMARS artillery, that have inflicted serious damage on Russian forces. U.S. and Western perceptions of Ukraine’s armed forces have changed since the February invasion, when U.S. and European officials worried Russian troops and tanks would crush their adversaries in a matter of days or weeks. Senior U.S. military officers and Western governments say Ukraine has shown ingenuity and grit in fighting a larger, better-armed military and quickly incorporated new weapons systems provided by NATO members.

The Ukrainians “continue to shock the world with how well they’re performing on the battlefield,” a U.S. official said.

This is fake news. 1.) The source is an unnamed Biden Administration official. 2.) The Biden Administration is rarely correct about anything. 3.) The Biden Administration constantly lie, has no credibility and nothing they say can be trusted.

So ignore this article and seriously answer the question, what interests do we have in Ukraine/Crimea that are more important than unattended interests here in the US?

I do not disagree. With enough modern anti air, the Russian conscripts die in large numbers in the general area of Illinka and Krasna Zor’ka fighting a 1980s war against one guided by the same overwatch of NATO drones.

Putin cannot move his troops within Russia, because they are mentally tied to a NATO threat. He is stuck with intermediate weapons to fight a battle in Germany in a two highway chunk of land in Crimea that he says is his. With that setup odds are there will be a rout and a artillery reduction of the forces.

The scary thing is if Russia fully collapses due to a expedition loss within a drive of moscow, what does the new Russia look like. Worse than 1999 we might hear about places in asia that have never made history before. There is a bit of pent up local rage on the east of russia.

I suppose they do, given 100 or 150 billion dollars in a to do so, with the Proviso that the Crimea would be left in the state of a garbage dump.

“This is fake news.”

Agree, considering that this passive weapon pretty much puts all of our ‘game changers’ in Russian sites (and that includes the Americans manning them).

We shouldn't be rewarding Russia for conquering territories. This isn't the 20th Century anymore. Pretty simple.

Unlikely. If Putin goes. Most likely, he'll be replaced by a nationalist. Alexander Bortnikov would be my guess.

Russia was in way worse shape back in 1999. It was at brink of anarchy. That's not the case today. Russia is in a stupid war. There is economic stagnation. Political repression. But people are much better off than they were in 1999. They are not thriving but they are suffering a lot less today (unless you are a conscript fighting in Ukraine then yes it sucks to be you because you are cannon fodder).

Now there’s some arrogance. Who are we to award or not reward? Exactly, how do we reward Russia by doing nothing? That’s eff’n moronic.

Real easy. Ukraine needs winter gear to dress their troops for this winter. They need ammo. We can share data with them from our satellites. Rotate their troops and send them to England for some rest and training so they are raised to NATO standard. And we need to send them parts so they can continue to fix their grid which is being bombed by the Russians daily.

That costs tax dollars that we don’t have. It rewards an abjectly corrupt Ukraine. It don’t give two craps about either Ukraine or Russia. Our actions thus far have punished Americans. I guess you hate Russia more than you love America.
