Asheville diverted funds meant for the poor into vice mayor’s private group, watchdog group claims

The City of Asheville — apparently illegally — has misapplied public funds, WNC Citizens for Equality, a citizens watchdog group, is contending in a press release sent Nov. 15 to the Asheville Daily Planet.

The release was headlined: “City of Asheville Diverts Funds Meant for the Poor to Vice Mayor’s Private Group?”

At that point, the text of the release begins, “WNC Citizens for Equality, a local government watchdog organization, is calling foul after the City of Asheville diverted hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars earmarked for legal aid for the poor into the hands of a private group associated with Vice Mayor Sheneika Smith.

“From there, much of the funds disappeared into the hands of unnamed individuals as cash payouts.”

What a smoldering mess. Why would a city engage in cash payouts?

Who would want to live and pay taxes in a city run this way?

And in the Great Smokey Mountains and home of Bilmore, the Vanderbilt summer mansion too.

20 years ago, I first visited and saw then that liberal academics, femnists and artist types were moving in and taking over what once had been a sleepy, but beautiful town. I can only imagine what it is today.

I love Asheville, but can never live their because the majority of people there, due to white guilt or whatever, vote for fools who steal from them, and who are not wise with other people's money. I have been going there since the 70s. It is a cool place.
