Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said she has identified one of the "massive" reasons Republicans significantly underperformed in last month's midterm elections.
McDaniel said a "massive amount" of ticket-splitting was one of the top factors that led to GOP losses in some key races this election cycle despite winning in other races on the same ballot, speaking with John Catsimatidis on Cats Roundtable on the radio station WABC 77 on Sunday.
"Ticket-splitting was everywhere. We won eight races statewide in Georgia, but then Warnock wins the runoff. Ron Johnson wins in Wisconsin, but Evers holds the governorship," McDaniel said. "It’s not a one size fits all."
McDaniel also mentioned how the GOP cannot ignore abortion as a matter for voters, saying it gave Democrats an opportunity this past election.
"We’ve got to get conversant on that. It was probably a bigger factor than a lot of people thought. We can’t just do an ostrich method and pretend that it doesn’t exist when Democrats are spending $30 million on that message," McDaniel said. "In Pennsylvania and Michigan, that was a huge issue."

When was the last time, in the Pennsylvania general election, that the GOP DIDN'T run a "crap candidate"?
so predictable
Yeah, we know what a gteat candidate fetterman was
Instead of running an effective national campaign the republican mid term message was “Inflation is bad and were not democrats”.
With a proper campaign and actually trying to reduce fraud they could have creamed the democrats.
Instead their long term plan is to get rid of MAGA and try not to offend anyone. Good luck with that plan.
You're looking at a state where the Republicans who win statewide elections are people like Arlen Specter, Pat Toomey, Tom Corbett and Tom Ridge. They are all the types of big-government globalists who most Freepers despise, but who do much better than the Lou Barlettas and the Doug Mastrianos of the political scene.
“As for #2...I DO NOT CARE at this point. Why? Because at the end of the day, I think most folks would say that he would NOT be a rubber stamp for Schumer. That he would actually be able to read a bill and understand it. That he wouldn’t have an illegal alien wife telling him what to say and how to vote.”
And your response to this is EXACTLY why OZ (or any R candidate) is going to lose when the race is “at least he’s not the other guy” type of race in PA.
Because just as “YOU don’t care” that your guy is literally a card carrying globalist, even though you claim you want to fight globalism, the left will make the exact same conclusion... “I don’t care Fetterman is brain damaged, at least he’s not going to vote for whatever cause desure I don’t like”.
You are proving the absolute reason why no Republican can win in PA with an “at least I’m not the other guy” campaign. Just like no democrat can win in a deep red state with the same type of campaign.
You need to offer a reason to support you, you can’t be a lousy or mediocre candidate.... and “at least I’m not the other guy” ain’t gonna ever get it done.
You are proving exactly my point.
Yes Fetterman got the majority of the mail in ballots, I don’t deny that at all.. claiming they are fraudlent however is a flat out LIE.
Unlike you, I actually work the polls in PA, and have for a good while now.
Democrats knew their candidate had a health issue, and made a concerted effort to make sure as many democratic votes were precast as possible... as far as ground game they put the GOP to shame. Remember, as well it was a GOP CONTROLLED LEGISLATURE who decided to allow mail in balloting for ANY REASON... NEVER FORGET THAT.
The dems knew their candidate had health problems, and covered it up and worked hard to get as many folks to vote up front as possible.. no one should be “shocked” or screaming “fraud” that the democrat got 3/4 of the mail in votes... This isn’t “fraud” folks.
I know every single voter who voted in my district on election day and via mail in, and can tell you with fairly good certainty how each of them voted. I have lived in my little bedroom community for 16 years now, with our less than 200 homes and roughly 350 voters. This is the type of district where OZ would have to win, or at least perform well in to win statewide, and he didn’t... and it wasn’t because of FRAUD.
Those pushing FRAUD cost PA for OZ are just ignorant. Was their fraud? Of course there is always fraud.. but this wasn’t 2020... GOP ran an off brand crap candidate.. and lost.
Look at the numbers, OZ didn’t lose because some HUGE ballot dump showed up that was outside the statistical norms like what happened with Trump in 2020... he lost because he underperformed what he needed to do across the state... period.
I supported Barnette
BUT then so did the rinos and dems. look where her $ came from.
Then she sat on her hands
(almost typed someplace else)
She lost her only race- for the house and you think she would do better statewide?
“Mehmet Oz was the perfect candidate for grabbing moderate suburban voters — especially stupid Karens. That’s why he was a better candidate for this Senate race than any of his competitors.”
Yes, that was the thinking behind him being one of the allowed candidates. I even had stated as much several times, and that he would likely play better than average in the Philly/eastern PA regions (or at least that is the argument being presented for him) and even stated long ago, that He was probably a very good candidate for some purple suburban eastern congressional district. Problem was, as I pointed out, he would NOT be able to perform in the areas where Republicans need to run up the score to pull off a win.
Thinking was that hey, he’ll do better than average in those areas, and the T will show up for him and between the two he’s got a chance.. Reality is, any gains he might have gotten in such areas, would have been more than countered by lesser support in the Deep Red places.. because unlike suburban wives who watched his show an liked em, he’s going to smell funny and not bring any excitement to the T... and he didn’t.
In the end, OZ underperformed Trump everywhere except for I believe 3 counties statewide in terms of percentages, so he didn’t manage to get the suburban pull or the Conservative pull.
Lets take Toomey for an example.. Toomey is effectively booted because he betrayed the base with his Impeachment vote.. so he knows he can’t win so he retires... so then the party puts up OZ who is even less conservative than Toomey, and expects that’s a winning hand?
Like I said the GOP establishment of PA is utterly out of touch with their electorate. They seriously believed that they could sell OZ to the T and get the turnout they needed.. and that was a fools errand. We threw out one guy but you want us to replace him with someone even less conservative?
Now, I won’t get into how badly the GOP ground game is either... because make no mistake they were outmaneuvered top to bottom... Massive add buys and annoying texting will NEVER EVER make up for pounding the pavement.. And in the dems absolutely owned the latter.
Since elections are mostly financed by the state, if a state decides either by initiative or legislation to adopt these policies, then there is really no recourse.
Conservatives can attempt to embrace open primaries, ranked choice voting, vote by mail, or ballot harvesting but all of those methods are inherently more favorable to wishy-washy or fraudulent candidates.
The Republicans could go back to financing their own caucuses for primaries. In this case, only one candidate would be offered up for each office for the main election if the state allows for this. But even here, if the winner of a caucus is "too conservative" then the RINOs can undermine the Republican by violating Reagan's 11th Commandment.
“””There are structural issues that go against conservative candidates. For example, open primaries and ranked choice voting. There are other structural issues that allow for election fraud such as vote by mail, ballot harvesting, etc.

It is my understanding that whether to have ‘open or closed primaries’ are decided by the political party in each state.
the reason is her sitting on her MASSIVE RUMP and not doing anything
How strong a candidate is necessary to beat that?
Because the parties are too cheap to run their own primaries, they are at the whim of the state on how to run them.
One would think that the parties would be against this and would have fought hard to prevent it, even the Dems. However, the leadership of both parties prefers open primaries as it tends to eliminate controversial candidates who are "too liberal" or "too conservative" for their liking.
Here is a link to what happened in California. It is more complicated than I had thought, but it's a quick one page read:
But...but...but...
You HAVE to vote for the republiCANT because... because...
Well, just because
(Don’t you get tired of hearing that)
In most urban states Democrat support is more solid than Republican support. Democrats can count on a base that will come out to vote because of abortion or because they think Republicans are backward or “mean.” Republicans rely on a conservative base, but need business-oriented independent voters to win, and those voters are easily swayed.
So yes, ticket splitting was a factor. It doesn’t make sense to people who vote based on ideology or principle, but there aren’t enough of those voters in most of the swing states to win an election for Republicans. I don’t doubt that there was fraud, but that’s not the reason why Republicans lost every election they lost.
This was a VOTE FOR AMERICA..... for COMMITTEES that decide what gets to the floor of the Senate.....not for OZ alone.
I USED to be like you...a PURIST waiting for Jesus-like GREAT Conservatives to run......then I GREW UP and GOT SMART!
Ronald Reagan said that someone who voted with you 80% of the time is NOT YOUR ENEMY!!
She has done to combat the democRAT fraud in rigging election.s She should be fired, the sooner the better, Supporting the RNC is a waste of money.
Well, unless the candidate is Democrat, like Festerman, Basement Katie and the JoeTatoe.
Exactly. Ticket splitting is another platitude to explain away absurdly fraudulent results in races for key power positions.
