Tension from a sentencing hearing in a murder case at the Summit County courthouse spilled into the hallway on Tuesday leading to a fight between two families.
Several minutes after Judge Christine Croce sentenced Kavon Jackson to 18-years-to-life in prison for killing William Howell on a METRO RTA bus, families from both sides began yelling at each other and throwing punches in the third-floor hallway.
The nuts don’t fall far from the trees.
Eighteen years seems too light for a deliberate murder. So if I were a member of the victim’s family, I think I’d be ready to rumble too.

I haven’t looked at the images, but just curious- Would each individual involved be eligible for $200,000 in repartations? I’m sure that would fix everything.

From what I’ve seen over time, it’s hard raising children in that lower-middle class environment, especially boys.
If the kids are lucky, both parents are there, or they at very least have Granddads and Uncles to provide some positive role models for behavior. Even when that Good Male Role Model advantage is present, when the kid becomes 10 to 14, they’re going to start doing some activities without the family standing by watching them. The kid will need to make decisions on their own.
Some are ready to make choices that stay within the law, while others may consider dealing drugs just to win approval from their peer group. Stealing is the lazy way to acquire material goods. Dealing drugs will only produce ill gotten gains. One hopes their child values their personal reputation more than to settle for this lifestyle.

The disgraceful attack on the victim’s family by the murderer’s relatives tells you a lot about the values this sorry sack of excrement was raised with-—NONE. I wish the taxpayers could just eliminate this waste of space and oxygen and donate the money it would have taken to feed this freakin’ animal for the rest of his life to the victim’s family.

I find myself in the rather odd position of praising a Stalinist constitution. One of Stalin’s constitutions set the maximum allowable prison sentence at ten years. Any criminal worthy of more than ten years imprisonment got the death penalty instead.
Well, that might have been a bit extreme. But there was a nugget of common sense in it.
What does 18 years to life mean?
