A tough, voter-approved gun control law in Oregon sees high-capacity magazines prohibited from being sold and transferred. New gun buyers must also obtain permits, criminal background checks, fingerprints, and go through training courses.
A number of lawsuits have been filed challenging the measure, which was narrowly approved by voters last month. The outcome of this measure is being carefully watched. It is one of the first sweeping gun restrictions since the New York law limiting gun ownership outside the home was struck down by the Supreme Court in June.
An earlier decision blocking Thursday’s implementation of the law remains temporarily in effect after the Oregon Supreme Court declined to reverse the earlier ruling.
On Wednesday evening, Chief Justice Martha Walters denied state Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum’s emergency motion to intervene.
Despite a ruling in favor of the law from a federal judge, Harney County Judge Robert Raschio blocked the law on Tuesday. According to an urgent filing from the Oregon Department of Justice, Raschio’s claim is incorrect.
“Magazine capacity restrictions and permitting requirements have a proven track record: they save lives!” a furious AG Rosenblum stated. “We are confident the Oregon Constitution — like the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution — allows these reasonable regulations.”

“We are confident the Oregon Constitution — like the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution — allows as many infringements as the Ruling Class wishes to impose on the peasants.”
It’s going to be a decades-long fight forcing the libtards to accept that Bruen (and for that matter, the Second Amendment) means EXACTLY what it says. They will do everything they can to undermine and ignore it, to the peril of our liberties.
Make them obey.
“narrowly approved by voters last month.”
Another one that broke the Dems way. Man... they sure are lucky.
On a completely unrelated topic... don’t they have prolific mail-in voting there in Oregon?
Then why aren't Portland, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, et al the safest cities on earth?
The irony is that, if you take those big cities and a few other Dem-led cities out of the US murder rate, we are about the safest country on earth.
No, they don’t. That’s BS pro gun control propaganda pure and simple.
THEY CAN ONLY VOTE BY MAIL IN OREGON.
SOMETIMES ON A POSTCARD-—easily seen by workers & destroyed.
The usual over the top screams. Save lives HOW? They can only conjecture.
And even with mail-ins, they barely squeaked this one by.
Aren’t they cute;D
I wonder if the writer could possibly go back and write this piece in sequence...it’s too jumbled to understand what took place when....
In rural oregon, 'No on 114' proliferated like mushrooms after a spring rain.
non-liberal, non-progressive portland/salem/eugene trio basically rules the state.
Biden said there should be a one bullet per cartridge limit. It’s perhaps the most thoughtful thing ever said by Biden about gun control. It is the essence of firearms safety and I doubt there are any true supporters of the 2nd Amendment that would disagree. After all, no one needs two or more bullets per cartridge to go hunting or even for self defense.
HR 1 in the next Congress should be the One Bullet per Cartridge bill. I am positive that every Republican would support this legislation. Once passed, America can simply drop all this quibbling over guns and get on with life.
(That’s called satire for the slow people.)
Most unconstitutional law ever passed.
Bottom line is, gun owner defended himself against thugs. That much is understood.
I’ll get behind that.
The only danger in the “one bullet per cartridge” agenda is that it might be applied to shotgun shells. For handgun and rifle ammo, no problem, as it doesn’t change anything.
self defense is self defense
stop preventing people from defending themselves
now about those gun free zones
Would that outlaw buck shot, bird shot and rabbit shot?
Trap and skeet shooting?
Not true. You can request to vote in person and the ballets are i. A sealed envelope that you have to sign.
