Problem is, these studies on “disparities” in punishments never seem to ask the question: what race are the teachers handing out these punishments to black kids? Because if the teachers are black too, it may not be racism.
I taught for 16 years in the inner cities of Los Angeles, and what you say is, for the most part, true. Hispanics don't always take academics very seriously, but they aren't usually hostile. Black kids, however... boys in particular... often were. The girls were usually fine, in my experience.
I can't say anything about white kids because I never taught them, outside of student teaching in Illinois, and they were really well behaved, but that's my only experience with them.
