Violent and disrespectful classroom behavior has led to a staggering 50 teachers and bus drivers to quit a Florida school district in the last two years.
Brevard County School District, the state’s 10th-largest, held a heated meeting Thursday that offered an unvarnished and often disturbing glimpse into the state of its classrooms.
“On an everyday basis I am deflecting being attacked, scratched, headbutted, pushed, hit,” teacher Alicia Kelderhouse said as her voice choked with emotion. “I’ve had my hair pulled, and pulled down to the ground. I’ve had my throat gone for on multiple occasions. It’s on an everyday basis right now.”
Kelderhouse said staffers often commiserate in the morning to muster the courage to face the day — and that frightened kids are grappling with the same fears.
“I have students who are afraid every day in the classroom,” she said. “It’s just not fair to them. That’s what hurts my heart the most.”
The head of the district’s beleaguered teachers union, Anthony Collucci, recounted recent incidents reported by staffers to school administrators.

No one said anything about “doing anything” to kids. Drill instructors by their nature are intimidating and know how to motivate. They take teenagers all over this land and turn them into professionals. Florida already has a troop-to-teacher program. Adding a bonus is money well spent.

My kids were all Williamson county public school raised
Hispanics are a non issue discipline wise

My oldest started at Percy priest in posh forest hills and they bused in 10-15% MECO black kids from over by charlotte ave
They disrupted the entire elementary school
That’s all it takes
They came to school in raggedy uniform which was required then
So I from my own pocket outfitted the entire MECO brigade
I was fatter $$ then
We also offered to bring home adults to school events etc
Almost no takers
That’s your problem mostly is no home support
In Jamaica a nation I know in and out replete with usual black culture racial (chicken egg)issues but their schools do Function

Brevard County has a population of 606,000. Probably has a significant number of schools and the article doesn’t tell us if the problems are county wide, or concentrated in particular neighborhoods and schools.

Drill Sergeants at Ft Benning are not allowed to wear the customary Campaign Hat for the first 3 weeks of basic training
They are not allowed to yell at recruits
They are not allowed to use the “knife hand”.
Recruits are given ‘stress cards’.
A ridiculous number of recruits can’t even make it out of the Reception Battalion.

The children reflect the high intelligence and desire to learn accordingly
They have many opportunities
However, Brevard, like any other county in any other state, has some questionable schools……with expected outcomes
Brevard, imo was chosen for this diatribe write up because it’s in FLORIDA

Brevard Public Schools employs 9300 staff members. If 50 of them quit over two years and attribute their departure to violent and disrespectful classroom behavior, that’s less than 0.3% per year.
Is that really national news?
