Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s bombshell announcement Friday that she was leaving the Democratic Party to become an Independent sparked a fury among liberals who accused the iconoclastic lawmaker of being a self-serving traitor.
The first-term senator argued in an op-ed published Friday by the Arizona Republic as well as several interviews that she has “never really fit into a box of any political party” — and she vowed not to caucus with Senate Republicans.
Should she keep her promise, Democrats will still retain their narrow voting majority in the closely divided Senate.
In a video explaining her decision, Sinema said: “Registering as an independent and showing up to work with the title of independent is a reflection of who I’ve always been. … Nothing’s going to change for me.”
Sinema’s move sparked an immediate backlash from Democrats, who took to Twitter to express their anger and frustration with the newly-minted Independent.

I notice they didn’t give her the title “Maverick” ...
That title is only reserved for Republicans that vote with the democrats 90% of the time.
We’ve already GIVEN the Socialist Democrats Mittens and Liz Cheney, not to mention ‘The Usual Suspects’ that ALWAYS side with Dems at the Eleventh Hour when it comes to a important vote!
What more do they want? ;)
In my opinion, not a chance. But, I’m no prophet, nor the son of a prophet.
“Just a question to our expert freepers here, could she chose not to caucus with either party? If she wants to be a true “independent” that would certainly be a way to show it.”
Yes, she could. But that would affect her committee assignments.
Indeed.....she just dosn’t want the label of either party to b free from critque and pressure. She’ll do as she wants without any loyalty.
Hopefully Manchin next
Serious question anyone can answer: Why does an independent have to caucus with any party?
So this puts her in the same boat as Sanders and King. But I don’t see any leftist fury directed at them.
BEAUTIFUL.
Question answered in the article:

“Yes, she could. But that would affect her committee assignments.”
Why don’t republicans offer her choice committee seats. Also, the Senate will switch (over 90% chance in 2024). Of the 34 seats up grabs in 2024 Dems are defending 23 of them. And a lot of those Trump won.
Yes. She seems to lean middle or to the right. She will continue to caucus with Dems
Bump to your Daddy. Smart man.

They could. And perhaps have. I don’t know. Her seat is one of those up in 2024. So she’s protecting her seat with this move.
absolutely.
the most dangerous party is the JUDAS party of Pence...
OK, Senator Manchin. A woman with far more bravery than you have ever shown has paved the way for you to do the right thing ... the right thing for the people of West Virginia and the right thing for our beloved American Republic.
Senator Manchin, do you still lack the courage to leave the America-/American-hating Democrat/Communist Party that recently — and very publicly — stabbed you in the back? ... or will you continue to grovel at the feet of your political master, Chuck Schumer?
The Tulsification of Cinema. She’s not going to overnight stop caucusing with Democrats but I suspect will happen over time.
the filibuster over throw the dems were planning.. just went down the crapper.
I doubt anyone here would be surprised if Manchin and one or two others followed suit... in the “blue dog” regions of the country.
Republicans are just as commie as the Democrats... just at a slower, less obvious pace. that is no simplified metaphor.
the dems are pro abortion.
so are MOST republicans... secretly.
The difference, the dems promote and support the murder of little black babies... OPENLY... and the persecution of those who are prolife.. Republicans hide their support, but secretly afraid of too many black babies in this country.
