“John McCain was elected as a Republican and voted as a Democrat.”

The mass media has a term for Republican Quislings:

Statesmen.

;-)

I think democrats have a legitimate gripe, as much as I hate to admit that.

Maybe this only applies to switching parties, but as I recall Phil Gramm of Texas resigned and stood for election when he left the democrat party. I was very impressed by that though a bit worried...unnecessarily.

She said that most people in AZ are Independents and that the party’s are to extreme (so she is goign to the middle where most of the votes are). She saw what happened in the Nov. election. She knows that people in AZ are angry and she wants to run/win again and possibly run for Pres. against JB.

She needs to be associated with a party caucus to get committee assignments. She could choose to be a true independent and not caucus with either party. She then would probably be denied any committee assignments. This would mean she would not get much if any special interest campaign cash, since the lobbyists for companies or causes related to a given Senate committee lavish donations on the members of those committees.

Here’s a thought. What if she is trying to make a move to topple both Schumer and the Turtle? I’m sure Manchin would be all ears. Those two form a coalition with the Republicans where Kyrsten would be the majority leader and Manchin would become the Senate president pro tem. Probably, in such a scenario, Willard M. Romney would be a major player along with pantywaists like Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, John Hoeven of North Dakota, Deb Fischer of Nebraska, etc. This would go to aceing out McConnell.

That the ‘Rats will control the Senate on January 3 is still up for grabs. Before the ‘Rats can take a one seat majority on the various committees, the Senate has to pass an operating resolution immediately after the swearing in of the winners of the 2022 elections. If Sinema and Manchin don’t vote with Schumer, all hell will break loose. This type of thing occurs every now and then in various state legislatures; I remember coalitions happening in Tennessee, Arkansas, California (a Willie Brown puppet stole the speakership away from the GOP in the 80s when the GOP actually had a 41-39 majority) and Alaska, as well as Joe Strauss cutting a deal with the ‘Rat minority in the Texas House to get elected Speaker there, even though the GOP had something like a 100-50 majority.

The Democrats in the House are secretly meeting with the least conservative GOPers such as Warren Buffett lackey Don Bacon of Omaha, trying to find the 7 votes they need to seize the speakership (remember that ‘Rat Don McEachin of Richmond, VA passed away a few days ago, so the partisan divide on January 3 will be 223 GOP and 211 ‘Rats.

She should be branded as the worst by Republicans and Independents too. She’s a worthless piece of excrement.

This is about 2024. She knows she won’t get the D nomination but thinks she could win in a three-way race.

“ the demon rats remain true to form, attacking a cvourageous WOMAN for not remaining on the dnc “

I wish, she will continue to caucus with the rats so this is a meaningless self serving gesture that changes nothing.

Having anyone still calling themselves a Democrat call me trash — why, I’d wear that label proudly.

"I hope that smug pile of trash Schumer is extra pissed of this morning"

When it comes to interpreting the moves of Washington politicians, you can never be cynical enough. This is nothing but a PR stunt, and the first salvo in her 2024 re-election bid (yes, she's in the last 2 years of her 6 year term).

What votes would she have cast differently over the last 4 years if she'd been independent? She certainly didn't offer any examples. If you look at her voting record, it is decidedly leftist (after all, she left the Green party to join the Dems). She even voted to convict Trump in his sham impeachment.

She has 2 years to prove this is a genuine change vs. just another campaign tactic. To my mind, it's much more likely the latter than the former.

This party switch is all about power and leverage. It will s not a repudiation of the Democrats with whom she will still caucus with.

Actually, good strategic move for Sinema.

She is in danger of facing a primary opponent from her Left in 2024. This way, if the Dems decide to run one of their own, they are doomed to split the Dem vote with Kirsten and guarantee that whoever the Republicans put up will win.

If the Dems don’t run a candidate, Kirsten gets the Democrat vote plus a chuck of the Independents. That makes it tougher for a Republican to win and the Dems get a 95% Democrat posing as an Independent.

Fair play.

The first-term senator argued in an op-ed published Friday by the Arizona Republic as well as several interviews that she has “never really fit into a box of any political party” — and she vowed not to caucus with Senate Republicans.

So she makes this "bold" move when it doesn't make any difference. The Democrats are in control even if she leaves their caucus. 50-49-1. Even if she did caucus with the GOP then it would be 51-50 with Harris.

Really brave, Kyrsten.
