The thieves won’t heed the threats of closure so honest customers will be deprived of a store. Like gun control - criminals don’t follow laws so law abiding citizens are the ones actually targeted.
But wait “Woke Walmart”.. serving the poor with stolen goods is your obligation.
Walmart is catering to the woke crowd more and more...this is the price they have to pay. Suck it up Walton Family.
i suggest that they up the limit that people can steal without gettign arrested to $10,000
One store did close years ago because of theft, in Hearne, Texas. It’s the only one I am aware of that has ever closed due to theft. You can guess the area. Not Amish....
Eventually stores will have be to pickup or delivery only, where pickup has a room double locked on both sides where people pick up items that were prepaid. The store could be named something fun like Teenz

When Walmart closes stores suffering insupportable loses from theft, as you say, they’ll scream ‘racism’ and ‘retail deserts’. Any attempt to curtail theft of commonly stolen products will also be called ‘racism’.

It’s been going on for a long time in the usual areas of the nation!! In the 70s, in the St. Louis area, a nearby supermarket closed after too much theft by kids roaming the store unsupervised by their parent(s).
I am a Baby Boomer and reject the notion that the lawlessness of today's ferals is my generation's fault. The octogenarians running the 'RAT party are pre-boomers. Most of my generation are law abiding, family oriented, and patriotic. We also are service minded, and many of us fought in Vietnam, Panama, the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Finally, the great majority of Baby Boomers are retired and have little influence on today's society, other than to vote.
The Left, as always, are a small percentage of each generation, though they have outsized megaphones and dominate academia, the media, and big tech. That's who deserve the blame for our current mess, not a demographic that chanced to be born from the mid-40s to the mid-60s.

Bet that after these dumbfounded city leaders realize boarded up stores and a food desert, they will propose bus routes to the suburbs. And in doing so, bring that same crime with them.
IIRC, statistically a good portion of theft is done by employees. I wonder if hiring from the local community has an impact on that in this context?

iirc......they had stuff in certain sections under lock and key. i believe they were black hair products. they were forced to do away with the locks. thank you government....for being on the wrong side.
YOU are so SPOT ON. Bus Routes absolutely correlate to crime rates increasing in the burbs. It has been that way for decades.
Close the stores! Sad part, stores let the theft go on. Employees are told let them steal and just report it to store security who just makes a report. Employees are specifically told - Do not stop the thieves. Employee will be fired and store sued if the poor little thug baby gets hurt. Poor little thug baby needs his skull split!
A lot of good having “off duty” cops in the stores moonlighting for extra cash. Those fat bastards are next to useless.

Our national debt was less than $1 trillion in 1980, and the debt to GDP was under 40%. 1980 is the sweet spot of boomer influence. This immoral expansion of government spending, on the backs of our children, defines my generation.
And what did we buy on their credit card?
Crime, flooding illegal aliens, woke military, DOJ/FBI corruption, 60 million abortions, failed schools, failed universities, loss of property rights, a failed civil society, and on, and on, and on.
Great... Now all the $hit heads are gonna come to the burbs with their antics..
