SAVING THE WORLD WITH ELECTRIC VEHICLES
Poerline ^ | December 6,2022 | BY JOHN HINDERAKER

Posted on 12/06/2022 5:47:22 PM PST by Hojczyk

The Department of Energy’s Argonne National Lab has just released a study showing that in 2021, US privately-owned plugin hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) “saved about 690 million gallons of gasoline.”

But that is a huge exaggeration because fossil fuels provide 61% of the electricity in the US … so only about a third of that apparent savings is a real reduction in fossil fuel use, the equivalent of maybe 130 million gallons.

The Argonne report also says that from 2010 to 2021, EVs have saved 2.1 billion gallons of gas. So let’s be generous and say that in 11 years, EVs have saved about a third of that, the equivalent of about 750 million gallons of gas.

Now that sure sounds like a lot of gasoline, three-quarters of a billion gallons.

However, as always, a sense of perspective is required. The US uses about 370 million gallons of gas per day … so that’s only about two days’ worth of gas.

I say again. Over the last eleven years, electric vehicles in the US have saved Two. Days. Worth. Of. Gasoline.

At enormous cost:

Direct taxpayer subsidies for EVs have cost you and me $10 billion dollars to date, and we’re on the hook for more. The government just extended the EV subsidy until 2032 and removed the cap on the number of vehicles eligible for the subsidy.

It gets worse. The US government also just approved spending an additional $7.5 billion of taxpayer money on EV charging stations.

So to date, we’re spending TWENTY-THREE DOLLARS for each gallon of gasoline saved … economic suicide.

And all of the world’s worst countries are laughing at us.

Electric vehicles have been around for well over a century, but they lost out to internal combustion vehicles because gas-powered cars are cheaper and better. That is still true today, regardless of how many billions of dollars governments shovel at subsidies for electric vehicles.

“nukes are like ponzi; everybody’s happy, everything’s great until suddenly they’re NOT.”

That is plain ignorant. I drive a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. That is the same era from which most operational nuclear plant designs derive. There are now fourth and fifth generation designs that cannot be implemented because of knucklehead greens.

Trust me, I know a lot more about this than you do.

Cobalt comes from Africa, mostly mined by children.

This is the Metalkol RTR Project in the Congo, by far the world's largest cobalt mine.

Look at all of the little children mining the ore

"Your focusing on saving a buck does in fact, do more harm to the environment"

Really? Go back and read that statement and tell me it doesn't sound exactly like a Dim typed it. The "environment" is used way too often to try to limit people's freedom. Life was simpler when only the Dims used that argument.

By the way, I like my ICE pickup too. Since I'm married and my wife and I need 2 cars anyway, when it came time to replace her car I chose to replace it with an EV in part to give us some diversification. When the pickup needs replacing I'll replace it with another ICE pickup instead of an EV. Why? There are times an EV is better, and there are times an ICE car is better (particularly if the ICE car is a pickup), so we have one of each. Plus, remember when the Dims made gas hard to come by and too expensive to use (IMHO it's still too expensive). At times like that we're glad we do most of our driving in the EV. If the Dims are successful in making power as undependable and as expensive as it is in 3rd world countries like California -- we'll do most of our driving in the ICE pickup. It's called diversification so that the Dims have to work twice as hard to limit our mobility by reducing our access to both gas and power.

” Your focusing on saving a buck does in fact, do more harm to the environment than driving an ICE and plays into the hands of the WEF et al who plan bringing the population down to 500 million. EVs are a key component of the green plan. “

WEF, earth.org and Amnesty International are the three big pushers of the fake propaganda about children miners in Africa.

“The energy inputs required to manufacture an EV are 7 to 8 times greater than the energy inputs to manufacture an ICE. “

I think you just made that up!

When you consider the energy loss by transmissions of electricity through the grid the comparision is even worse. “

Less than the loss of transporting gasoline to the user.

“Except for nuclear, petroleum is still the most efficient source of energy.”

No. Electricity generated by NG combined cycle plants used tompower EV’s is more than twice the efficiency of using petroleum to power cars.

interestingly enough I drive an old car, 90's with efi.

if we suffered a significant emp you'd still be drivin' while mine won't start

you were trying to make the case that newer is always better, right?

Your 57 Chevy is derived from an early 1900’s design. Cars produced today are derived from those same early designs.

EV's are not carbon neutral.

I never said they are all-in carbon neutral.

That's a massive calculation.

All I performed was a simple CO2 "cost" comparison for a full tank of gas vs electric power generation.

The math is clear: EVs cause less CO2 "pollution" vs an ICE with sole regard to electricy vs gasoline as long as it's not a coal-fired generator.

I'm not saying we need to give more billions to the EPA, we have to build windmills everywhere, and zat choo vill eeeet ze bugz and choo vill like eeet. But if we can't be honest, then we have met the enemy and he is us.

Tell It Right has the freedom to optimize his own utility curve. If liberty to him is solar and EV, and he's not using force nor fraud, then it's none of my business. Nor is he giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Nor am I by disclosing the mathematics.

Your 57 Chevy is derived from an early 1900’s design.

The first usable DC [most tesla] electric motor was built by Moritz von Jacobi in May 1834.

gotcha beat by 66 years since you want to be stoopid

Also, once the energy is converted<.b> (to) electricity, is an electric motor more efficient than a internal combustion engine.”

But how efficient is the FIRST part of this sentence, where the coal/NG gets converted to volts?
