The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said the government will draw up a law banning churches affiliated with Russia, saying the move is necessary to prevent Moscow being able to "weaken Ukraine from within." The National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, which groups top security, military and political figures, told the government to draft the law following a series of raids on parishes that Kyiv says could be taking orders from Moscow.

In WW2 the USA banned the Nazi Bund from operating in the USA because it was aligned with the enemy.

Same principle with Ukraine banning the Holy Church of Vladimir Putin.

“You don’t get to tell people where they can and can’t worship”

Why not? Russia does.

They need to tell Zelensky in Ukraine they are going to go to church where they want to go and that he can’t tell them what to do. Period.

This may actually backfire on Zelensky, if I’m reading the situation right.

In late 2018, given the decision of the See of Constantinople to grant the Orthodox Church of Ukraine independence (i.e. autocephaly, such that the Metropolitan of Ukraine would be answerable only to the Ecumenical Primate, in Eastern Orthodox terms), the Russian Orthodox Church severed their communion with Constantinople. As a result, the Orthodox churches in Ukraine were bifurcated into two:

- The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), recognized by Patriarch Bartholomew and recognized by the majority of the Eastern Orthodox autocephalous churches. A good portion of other churches claiming the title also united into this new patriarchate.

- The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), in communion with the Moscow Patriarchate as it had been for the last few centuries. (Naturally, the story of how the Orthodox in Ukraine came under the dominion of Moscow is rather messy, but it was still under Moscow’s Metropolitan for longer than the United States has been a country.)

Notwithstanding the tensions between the OCU and the UOC on the matter of communion in Eastern Orthodox circles, the matter of Russia’s invasion earlier this year resulted in the UOC declaring independence from the Moscow Patriarchate on May 27, 2022. Although not formally in communion with the OCU, the UOC is now de facto (possibly de jure) separate from Moscow.

So with all that being said...why is Zelensky specifying the UOC as a target? Why is Ukraine PUNISHING the UOC after they declared independence from Moscow, signalling that they wanted nothing to do with the invasion?

Does he not realize what kind of message that sends?

Do you also condemn Putin for his restrictions on non-Russian Orthodox churches?

This is the Ukraine taking orders from their overseers in Brussels and Washington. You can be sure that pagan, pro-LGBTQ/globalist “churches” will face no such sanctions. The overall effect is to undercut by degrees Gospel witness and herd the Ukraine people into venues that preach only the Western elites’ agenda.

It stinks coming from anyone.

Now you have to condemn all of it.

It would be Russia that should be afraid of Ukraine starting a coup in Russia, not Ukraine thinking Russia will use churches in Ukraine to start a coup in Ukraine as the Salon article below lays out.

It was some Ukrainians though, not Russia, that participated in an coup against a pro-Russian president of Ukraine whom the voters in Ukraine knew he leaned towards Russia, not the EU, and yet after a free and fair election, the majority of Ukrainians chose him anyway.

Salon
2/2/2022

“most American politicians and corporate media have fallen in line with a one-sided narrative that paints Russia as the aggressor in Ukraine, and support sending more and more weapons to Ukrainian government forces. After decades of U.S. military disasters based on such one-sided narratives, Americans should know better by now. But what are our leaders and the corporate media not telling us this time?

The most critical events that have been airbrushed out of the West’s political narrative are the violation of agreements made by Western leaders at the end of the Cold War not to expand NATO into Eastern Europe, and the U.S.-backed coup in Ukraine in February 2014. Western mainstream media accounts date the crisis in Ukraine back to Russia’s 2014 reintegration of Crimea, and the decision by ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine to secede from Ukraine as the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics. ...”

Also from Salon: “Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and U.S. ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt mentioned Tyahnybok as one of the leaders they were working with in their infamous leaked phone call..”

And at the same time, Nazis were allowed to parade through the streets of NYC...and were not stopped in any way.

Yes, this has seen before in The Ukraine.

July 11th 1943.

July 11th, 1943 the Ukrainians struck at ALL non Ukrainian orthodox denominations. They raided churches and killed everyone inside, or locked to doors and burned them alive inside and if anyone tried to escape, they used pitchforks or sickles on them.

Thanks for the reminder.

Demonizing one’s “enemy” (allegedly Russia,Russia,Russia) dos not turn one’s ally into a saint.
