That’s what it ought to be, but as of all people, you should know,

lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Did you dig deeply enough to be sure that that is what was done?

If so, it means that there are close to two guns for every eligible fire-arms owner, and that your average owner probably has about four—which sounds about right to me.

I did the research and wrote the article.

I think the decline in casual hunters may be part of that trend. When I was a kid opening day of deer season sounded like an Arab wedding. Now, between reduction of hunting area and fewer hunt once or twice a year types, it’s pretty quiet.

Effective pain relievers for severe pain has been curtailed enough that those with it are miserable. Our gods government in its infinite wisdom interferes with the doctor patient relationship in these matters. Sorry for your loss.

It could be. In Wisconsin, the mandating of wearing hunter orange was associated with a large drop in the number of firearms accidental shooting during deer season.

"Per capita is the number total private firearms in the United States divided by the total population of the United States."

But of course! But that is not a means to determine the number of guns per household. Few households contain a single firearm. Most contain either none, several or many.

There is a reason in the 1800s that a $2 pistol was known as a “Suicide Special” long before the term “Saturday Night Special” was coined.

My brother-in-law obtained himself a short barreled shotgun. I measured it and said he better not get caught with it as it was too short.

A few years later, his daughter stole it from her dad and blew her head off with it. She had mental problems.

The local police confiscated it and we never heard another word about it. Probably in some cop’s private collection as a “drop gun”.

***Includes “suicide by cop”***

I had a friend whom I worked with for 30 years. Not long ago he was shot by a cop. At the funeral, in talking with his wife I now believe it was “suicide by cop”.

Suicide is a fairly common occurrence in Japan. One female reporter demonstrated that 3 charcoal briquets in a closed car interior was sufficient to do the job. My next door neighbor's son did the same thing in his bathroom. He was 28 and having problems landing a good job. His wife brings their daughter to see her grandparents next door.

Condolences on the misuse of the gift. There was no way to anticipate it was going to go that way. When a person intends to commit suicide, they will find a means. My wife deals with it often as a police dispatcher.

Maybe less hammer fired and more striker fired firearms?

Hard to know.

The mechanical safety systems have improved markedly, however.

Today, it is very difficult to find a production firearm which will go off when dropped.

In Oregon, people commit suicide by driving into a larger vehicle.

Thanks. When statistics show up, I always ask questions—my undergrad is in economics and I had some professors who did teach rigorous thinking.

Good habit.

There is a tremendous amount of lying with statistics in our society, because the dominant media is unwilling to critically consider anything which contributes to their desired narrative.

I listen to Chris Plante (WMAL-FM/iHeart).

Near-daily, he rattles off a series of “suicide-by-cop” events. Many involve trying to assassinate one or more cops. (White or Asian—by car, firearm, or other means).

Ron DeSantis was present on the ballfield when House Majority Whip Steve Scalise got badly wounded. The perp, who was a bad rifle shot, was shot dead.
