U.S. consumer spending powers ahead in October; inflation cooling
Reuters ^ | December 1, 2022 | Lucia Mutikani

Summary

> Consumer spending increases 0.8% in October

> Personal income rises 0.7%; saving rate falls to 2.3%

> Core PCE price index gains 0.2%; up 5.0% year-on-year

> Weekly jobless claims fall 16,000 to 225,000

U.S. consumer spending increased solidly in October, while inflation moderated, giving the economy a powerful boost at the start of the fourth quarter as it faces rising headwinds from the Federal Reserve's aggressive monetary policy tightening.

The labor market, the economy's other pillar of support, continues to show resilience. The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits declined last week, almost unwinding the prior week's jump, which had lifted claims to a three-month high, other data showed on Thursday.

5% inflation is better than 8.5% recent inflation rate.
Why is 5% bad news? If it was 12% now that would be bad news.

FED can now taper interest rate INCREASES. Instead of 75 basis points every time, FED can go down to 50 or 25 basid points.

Don’t get me wrong, any inflation over 2% is bad for all except the very rich.

Correct inflation is never going down if it is more than 0.1%.

What “cooling” inflation means the rate of inflation is less. Instead of 8.5% it is 5%. So yes, eggs could increase 5% next year instead of 8.5% increase.

Ha! I’m in the free state of Florida Store brand eggs are $5.99, iceberg lettuce is $2.99 for a softball size, $4 per pound for beefsteak tomatoes, $5 for a pack of burger buns, Romain hearts are $7. But inflation is “easing”. Uh huh. Publix seemed to raise the price of every single non sale item overnight Thanksgiving night. I’m not kidding.

Did you take any math courses in college?

Going from 8.5% inflation rate down to 5% inflation rate is a COOLING trend.

I don’t disagree. But let’s see what happens in Q1-2023 when other manufacturers reset their pricing.

The store just converted 75% checkout registers to self checkout.

Darn it. Another thing for me to hate about life.

I had trouble at Kroger finding a human cashier lane and saw they re-booted the dormant U-Scan ones on the second end.

So it's on purpose, the rotten SOBs. Stores can save a fortune on human workers, get the free slave labor from us dunces and pocket the profit increases.

But my bad back will act up on big full carts of self-scan. Too bad for me.

I’ve been saying this a long time. The people have to suffer.
If they don’t the country is lost forever.

If they say at the next stolen election “gas was down 2 cents. I seen on TV that the economy is going up. I am definitely voting Democrat again.” then there will be:

end of filibuster, packing of Supreme Court, FCC ending licenses for anyone who has conservative talk, national police force oversight and control, national election certification control, end of the electoral college, adding senators in CA,NY and other large states, FBI doing blanket cell phone searches for all citizens to keep on file and worse.

Or....economy goes into recession.

Plenty of math, but I also know plenty of lies when I see ‘em.

But thanks for your concern.

I love when they want to see my receipt after I self check out. I just laugh and say if you don’t trust me to do it myself maybe YOU should run the register..

They don’t see the humor but it cracks me up.

The one peaceful way to protest the massive election fraud is to stop spending money on consumer junk.

We're in luck, as we are still under 'peaceful military power'.

Reminder - the US is STILL currently under 'military power'
