Election officials in a rural Arizona county are gearing up for a slew of legal battles after they failed to certify the results of the 2022 midterm elections, facing criminal penalties and at least two lawsuits.
Two Republican supervisors in Cochise County, Arizona, voted to delay the county’s election results until Friday — four days after the state-mandated deadline. The vote quickly spurred court battles from state officials as they scramble to complete the statewide canvass, which requires certified results from all 15 counties before being completed.
“It’s astounding that Cochise County officials failed to certify the election results,” Alex Gulotta, the All Voting is Local Arizona state director, said in a statement. “The refusal to certify the results is directly tied to those who would rather sow distrust in our electoral process than protect our democracy and ensure that all votes are counted.”
The delay of the statewide canvass threatens the postponement of recounts in at least two statewide elections, including the attorney general’s race, which can’t begin until results across Arizona are certified. It also hinders candidates and outside groups wishing to sue over election results, as parties can’t file lawsuits until the vote counts are certified.
Cochise County supervisors voted to delay certifying election results amid pressure from Republican leaders who wished to reject Democratic wins over GOP candidates. As a result, two county supervisors, Republicans Tom Crosby and Peggy Judd, voted to push certification to Friday until they could receive more information about concerns over ballot tabulators.
Election officials have already deemed the ballot tabulators safe and accurate to use.

Didn't you spend eight years trying to get the Obama presidency annulled on the basis of his natural born citizenship status? And how did that work out for you?
Meanwhile, the GOP is going to lose a House seat in AZ-06 and Hobbs and Kelly are still going to win their elections.
Yes, the GOP should've fought tooth and nail for Hobbs to recuse herself prior to the election. Clearly, there was a conflict of interest. But they didn't. And now they're going to sacrifice a House seat AFTER the election in a lawsuit that will go nowhere?
Like I said, idiots.
Still clasping The Backstab Party close to your bosom?
Watch yer back, I say.
If the Cochise problem is REALLY about their machines not being certified, then maybe a can of worms could be opened up against the Dominion RATS in ALL Arizona counties.
Can one assume that you are an “expert” in how the people in Cochise county think?? And therefore have a unique insight as to how each person voted..?? And can one also assume that you are also an expert on how midterm election voters turnout in all states or are you just an expert on Arizona??
Time to apply the wisdom of Solomon...divvy up Arizona between Maricopa and the rest of the counties. Hobbs can be the Governor of Maricopa, and Lake can be the Governor of Everything Else. Easy peasy.
No. I researched it, but nothing I could have done would have accomplished that. Too many Republicans were all in for being cowards. (Except for Trump.)
And how did that work out for you?
Well as your premise is false, your question is predicated on a false premise, and is therefore not a valid question.
Meanwhile, the GOP is going to lose a House seat in AZ-06 and Hobbs and Kelly are still going to win their elections.
So you say, but pardon me if I don't trust your judgement.
Yes, the GOP should've fought tooth and nail for Hobbs to recuse herself prior to the election. Clearly, there was a conflict of interest. But they didn't.
Seems as if they just don't care when it is a reformer at risk.
And now they're going to sacrifice a House seat AFTER the election in a lawsuit that will go nowhere?
We do not know that. Also I think you are completely wrong if you think this is going to have any effect on the house seat.
If Cochise county certifies Friday, you think they are gonna say "No! Too Late! Your votes can't count!"?
I think you are outta your mind if you believe they can simply ignore the votes in an entire county.
Arizona has been stinking bad since 2020. Even the audit of Maricopa county showed massive amounts of fraud and fake votes.
As it stands, if Cochise doesn’t certify their votes, two races will flip from their Republican winners to the Democratic opponent, including a House seat. The AG race will be rendered unwinnable for the Republican candidate who is waiting on a recount.
Cochise isn't alleging any issues with their voting procedures.
Hell, Lake won Cochise County by 18 points, Masters by 12, and Juan Ciscomani by 35 POINTS!
They're protesting Mariposa County's elections.
And these efforts are going to cause Ciscomani to lose his House election by thousands of votes and Democrat Kirsten Engel will take his spot in DC.
You can’t certify FRAUD!
Your comment reminds me of that scene in "From the Hip" in which the prosecutor falsely tries to portray the defense expert witness as unqualified because he has no special knowledge in areas of forensics that were not at all related to the case.
One does not have to be an expert on Arizona and Cochise county to recognize the data numbers coming out of the county look very suspicious. Kiryandil has analyzed all the election data for the entire nation going back to 2008, and he can show you in what counties the 2020 steal occurred.
LOL!
We can see why you snuck back onto Free Republic, retread.
That is nonsense meant to frighten people. I do not believe constitutional law allows people to be disenfranchised. One way or the other, the election cannot be finalized unless the votes of all the voters are counted.
Where do you come up with this "lose a house seat" crap?
Are you a McCanianc or something?
This time.
It is your attention to detail like this that makes me trust your judgement so much.
My typo aside, feel free to check back on this thread in a few weeks and see whose argument prevailed.
Not that I will take any joy in winning.
This is a very sad state of affairs :(
GOP seems to be willing to facilitate her “victory???!??”
