Road Trip: Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Tennessee

TNnsamidsouth2

Naval Support Activity Mid-South (NSA Mid-South, NAVSUPPACT Mid-South, NSAMS), in Millington, Tennessee, is a base of the United States Navy. A part of the Navy Region Southeast and the Navy Installations Command, NSA Mid-South serves as the Navy’s Human Resources Center of Excellence.

The base is host to several commands and other military tenants: Navy Personnel Command, Navy Recruiting Command, the Navy Manpower Analysis Center, a Marine reserve Company - Bridge Company C (6th ESB, 4th MLG) and the US Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center.

TNnsamidsouth6

NSA Mid-South is continuing the goal to become the Navy’s premiere support installation by striving to maintain excellence in our facilities and services. The efforts and accomplishments of the NSA Mid-South team have been recognized and rewarded the past several years by repeatedly earning both the Governor of Tennessee’s Quality Commitment Award and the Greater Memphis Association for Quality Leadership Award.

TNnsamidsouth5

The Naval Support Activity has over 7,500 enlisted and officer personnel, civilians, and full-time contract personnel, who provide all essential logistic and operational support to the commands and activities on board. As the base has evolved and changed, so has its impact on the area. It plays an important part in the community and is one of the largest single employers in the state of Tennessee.

TNnsamidsouth4

The Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS) in the United States Department of the Navy is similar to the human resources department of a corporation. The bureau provides administrative leadership and policy planning for the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) and the U.S. Navy at large. BUPERS is led by the Chief of Naval Personnel.

As of 2009, the office of the Bureau of Naval Personnel served as a parent command to the Navy Personnel Command (NPC). The duties of NPC are nearly identical to the former office of BUPERS and the command's logo even incorporates the name of the latter's office. BUPERS is also the overseeing authority for Navy Recruiting Command.

A Hot Meal
Read: Matthew 25:34–40

Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:40

Barbecue chicken, green beans, spaghetti, rolls. On a cool day in October, at least fifty-four homeless people received this hot meal from a woman celebrating fifty-four years of life. The woman and her friends decided to forgo her usual birthday dinner in a restaurant, choosing instead to cook and serve meals to people on the streets of Chicago. On social media, she encouraged others to also perform a random act of kindness as a birthday gift.

This story reminds me of Jesus’ words in Matthew 25: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (v. 40). He said these words after declaring that His sheep will be invited into His eternal kingdom to receive their inheritance (vv. 33–34). At that time, Jesus will acknowledge that they’re the people who fed and clothed Him because of their genuine faith in Him, unlike the proud religious people who did not believe in Him (see 26:3–5). Although the “righteous” will question when they fed and clothed Jesus (25:37), He’ll assure them that what they did for others was also done for Him (v. 40).

Feeding the hungry is just one way God helps us care for His people—showing our love for Him and relationship with Him. May He help us meet others’ needs today.Katara Patton

What acts of kindness can you do today to show God’s love to others? How are you also caring for Him when you help meet their needs?

Gracious God, please help me to show Your love through my actions today.

For further study, read Loving the Neighbor Next Door.

Aaah, was stationed there back when it was an NAS. After that did a lot of work with the personnel center. The base has changed a lot. Anyone remember the Shake Rag Inn in neighboring Shake Rag? Good times.

A lot of us were stationed there when it was NATTC Memphis, Naval Air Technical Training Center, for aviation technical training for everyone from air traffic controllers to ADs (the guys who load bombs), to jet and airframe mechanics, to avionics technicians.

Hey there, radu!

Darn if we weren’t in the 70s today. It was really pretty. Will be again tomorrow...before the wind starts blowing and the temp plunges.

Are you getting any of those wild storms going through the southeast? I’m hoping they’re well south of you.

Howdy, luvie.

Your 70s sound mighty nice. It wasn’t quite that warm here but it was warm enough, I took my jacket off pretty quickly after we left this afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to be right around 70 and windy as that storm system moves in.

As of now, we might get some storms but chances of bad ones are lower than to our west, and to our south. The bulls eye covers primarily southeast AR, a little bit of northeast LA, quite a bit of MS, and maybe Memphis. We’re on the edge of Level 1 and Level 2 threat. Yesterday, we weren’t in a threat area at all so I don’t know what changes they’ll make by tomorrow. It’ll be late afternoon through the night for us.

Wednesday and Thursday, the highs will be upper 40s. Then back up a little for the weekend.

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thank you Lauren for this morning's thread.

For those with family, friends and/or interests in the Mid-South you can track today's weather activity here. Memphis is (megchat) Little Rock is (lxkchat) Jackson is (janchat) and Shreveport is (shvchat). For what it's worth, my neck of the woods is (ounchat).

Yesterday at Comanche Lake:

How's everyone doing this morning?

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

It looks like Gizmo got plenty of exercise yesterday. He was a pooped pooch.

It’s gonna be a rowdy day over in this part of the country, no doubt. It shouldn’t get TOO bad here but the way they’ve kept changing the forecast, who knows? I wouldn’t mind a good thunderstorm with lots of lightning. LOL Might cheer me up a little.
