Kyiv relies entirely on its allies for weapons. That’s not a position any country fighting a war for its existence should be in – relying on others for its defense needs. NATO was unprepared for a big war, especially with Russia.

like the way the United States depended on France in its first few years of existence?

“NATO was unprepared for a big war, especially with Russia.”

NATO’s whole existence was to prepare for a big war with the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact Countries.

The Russian Military force structure is 1/4 of the Soviet Union, and the Warsaw Pact Countries are now part of NATO.

NATO has not lost a single soldier in this war, and Russia’s conventional military equipment is already over halfway destroyed.

Based on Russian losses and Poland’s contracted arms purchases, Poland alone is on track to outgun Russia in the next few years, in conventional military capability. Italy has a bigger GDP than Russia, as do California or Texas. Russia does have a much bigger impression of itself however.

US Military aid to the Ukraine for this war, was a little over 2% of the FY2022 Defense budget, and about half of Russia’s conventional combat power has been destroyed or captured.

Do you think our Navy and Air Force would just let the Chinese land there?

Hopefully you know that, the U.S. is world power, and has U.S. interests all over the world, even including assets and people in enemy territories.

We have interests in China and Russia and Iran and Venezuela and in Cuba and in a lot of other hostile countries. And, a lot of hostile countries are next to countries friendly to the U.S. So, an attack on the U.S. does not mean that it has to occur within our states and territories.

Also, don't forget that defending Hawaii and Puerto Rico (yeah, I know, many here want to give it back to Spain or let it go altogether) and other American possesions, would be much more difficult than defending Texas or Florida or any other state.

The U.S. is NOT just the contiguous states and Hawaii and Alaska. The U.S. is virtually, the world. Losing any kind of power and influence anywhere in the world, would be deleterious to the rest of the U.S. Like the song says We Are The World".

Cuba or Venezuela alone could not take on the U.S., and nobody said that. But, don't forget that Russia is still allied with both those nations, and China could be counted on to join them if it came to war against the U.S.

Your theory of international affairs is stuck in the 1960s. China is not going to destroy their nation economically in order to help Russia and its two allies Cuba and Venezuela in some wild fantasy attack on the USA. China has already expressed its displeasure with Putin's invasion, and they are very unlikely to disrupt trade with the USA and other western nations. Doing so would destroy their economy within months.

You also don't seem to understand the huge disparity of forces between the USA and Russia alone.

You can see how effective the Russian armed forces actually are by looking at what is happening to them in Ukraine. They can't even defeat a country with a GDP the size of Nebraska or Arkansas. Without their nuclear weapons Russia wouldn't last a month against NATO or the US military.

Your theory of international affairs is stuck in the 1960s.

That's kinda like what Obama said to Romney in the 2012 debate for the presidency regarding how Romney was stuck in the '80s regarding the Russian threat.

The enemies of the 60s are still the current enemies, including Russia and China.

And, you can't conclude that the Russians are weak just because they're in a quagmire in Ukraine. Russia still has thousands of nuclear weapons and a huge inventory of modern warplanes.

And China is even more powerful than Russia now.

The threat are real, and trying to win the argument doesn't change the facts of the world and the dangers that await when the U.S. is weakened, like it has been in the last few years.
