Russian Soldiers Are Freezing To Death In Eastern Ukraine
Forbes ^ | November 27, 2022 | David Axe

The Ukrainian army has deployed some of its best brigades to eastern Ukraine, including the 92nd and 93rd Mechanized Brigades and the 1st Presidential Brigade.

But these elite Ukrainian formations might not be the biggest killer of Russian troops in the east. Under-trained, under-supplied and ambivalently led, Russians in the region are freezing to death by the dozen.

Shocking videos that have circulated online in recent weeks tell a tragic story. The videos, shot by the Ukrainian brigades’ hovering drones, depict Russians in the late stages of hypothermia, so cold and sick that they barely react when the drones drop lethal improvised bombs on them.

Thomas Theiner, an ex-soldier who currently is a filmmaker in Kyiv, predicted winter “would kill more Russian soldiers than Ukraine ever could.” He may have been right.

Winters in Ukraine start wet and cold then get colder and drier. Eastern Ukraine still is in the wet-cold phase—and it’s brutal. Deep mud mires armored vehicles. Daytime temperatures hover around freezing, while nighttime temperates dip closer to zero degrees Fahrenheit.

With preparation, sound leadership and reliable logistics, the conditions are survivable. Soldiers bundle up, sleep in roofed, heated trenches with floors, frequently change their wet socks and eat twice as much as they would on warm days. When they get sick, they evacuate to the rear for rest.

The problem, for the Russian army, is that more and more of its troops are untrained draftees. Officers aren’t leading from the front. And Russian logistics are strained by nonstop Ukrainian bombardment. Starving draftees with no gloves or good boots are huddling in shallow, unheated trenches while their officers squat in abandoned houses potentially miles away, unaware or uncaring as their soldiers succumb to the elements.

like you will believe.

Pure projection. You believe all Russian/Chinese propaganda without question or challenge, and disbelieve all news sources that contradict the narrative you've been brainwashed in.

The Russians were far more effective on the ground than the Americans in WWII against a much much bigger battlefield. But, our our propaganda outran actual WWII history. We should have been honest about it and if we had, our war tactics would not have cost us 100,000 young men’s lives in Korea and Vietnam. We would have learned that cannon fodder is not what Americans are good at being.

I am beginning to think that the neocons aligned with George Soros have infiltrated FR to an extent unimaginable.

Disgusting, isn’t it?

How many millions of Ukrainian civilians will suffer the same fate? The Russians are bombing all of Ukraine's electric generation plants.

Putin will do more damage to Ukraine's power grid than Greta Thunberg has done to Western Europe's.

Yep; yet the Russia fans “think” the USSR was the true winner of WWII. They didn’t fight a two-front war like the US did for 3.5 years.

Remember how in March the Russians ran out fuel 100 miles from the Russian border? That was right before they ran completely out ammo. It’s so confusing, I know I’ve read of them running out of ammo at least 20 times. I call BS on this entire story. I have it directly from the Biden Administration FR spokespeople that the Russians ran completely out of troops in early April. I know the government/media coordinate the release of administration PR, can’t they coordinate their FR operatives PR efforts a little better?

But the Russians are calling up another two million troops. I am sure they won’t be sent to war without boots. Right?

I am joking of course. Their entire military was about 1 million before this all started. There is zero chance they will increase their numbers by 200%. While there is propaganda coming from both sides, the logistical issues of fielding a large Army without the industrial base to make the simple things make most of these stories simply unbelievable.

In addition, most people’s winter garb—even in cold areas—are not designed to live in for months. I have some boots from my time living and working outside in Northern VT and NH. I seriously doubt there are 20 similar pair in my town in MA. They were expensive and ugly.

I would not want to go to a winter war in the everyday winter boots I own. I strongly doubt the every day Russian is getting good winter clothing.

Vlad doesn’t want a Russian retirement. He wants to retire and still be breathing.
