Portland business permanently closes, citing concerns with crime. ( Oregon )

PORTLAND, Ore. — Marcy Landolfo is at her breaking point. This week marked the 15th break-in at Rains PDX within a year and a half.

Landolfo said most of those repairs at the Northeast Portland location were paid for out of pocket. Other times, she just left the windows boarded up.

"It’s just too much with the losses that are not covered by insurance, the damages, everything. It’s just not sustainable," Landolfo said.

KATU asked why Landolfo decided to close now, instead of keeping doors open through the holiday shopping season.

...

The owner at Rains tells me after five break-ins in about three weeks, she made the sudden decision to permanently close. Staff here are putting pressure on the city to look after small businesses dealing with ongoing challenges with crime.

...

"The products that are being targeted are the very expensive winter products and I just felt like the minute I get those in the store they’re going to get stolen," she said.

Landolfo said she's worried about her employees, and no longer sees this location as a feasible business model.

"The problem is, as small businesses, we cannot sustain those types of losses and stay in business. I won’t even go into the numbers of how much has been out of pocket," she said.

When Rains was broken into in late October, KATU reached out to Mayor Ted Wheeler's office.

...

His team said they're working to increase funding for business repair grants through Prosper Portland. Landolfo said that's not enough.

"Paying for glass that’s great, but that is so surface and does nothing for the root cause of the problem, so it’s never going to change," she said.

The mayor's office also said they participated in a retail safety summit in October, and cited recent efforts to streamline the permitting process for things like storefront lighting.

KATU asked how that work is going, and we're still waiting to hear back at this time.

In the case of that store owner, you are correct. Her words from 2017:

Shop To Resist Trump

Marcy Landolfo- Owner, “Personally, I hate that we don’t get to decide how our tax dollars are spent. Important tax dollars are funneled into big business political agendas, rather than into infrastructure, education, and public health, which benefit EVERYONE! Non-profit donation is the only way for me to support causes that are truly important to me.

I’ve donated to Planned Parenthood, which was an obvious first choice for me! Being a woman, being someone who has used their services when I was unable to afford health insurance, and having close friends who still have to rely on PP services for their health, I feel that my donations and support go a long way; it directly affects those I hold near and dear, as well as under privileged men and women in many communities. I also feel PP is necessary and important for GLOBAL HEALTH! They do so much, for so many. They HAVE to survive this current administration!”

She survived the Trump administration, but she didn’t survive the Biden administration.

Maybe. She’s from Cleveland, and moved to Portland in December of 2019...the year before Covid and BLM/Antifa rioting.

Not a word in that notice to customers of Demonrat policy that is the sole reason for the store closing. They can “support” small business all they want but it will be for nothing if they don’t change how they vote.

Her FB pages are conflicting. One says she has a certificate in Urban Design from Portland State (2011). Another says she moved to P-town in 2019.

The powers that be won’t fix this because they can’t.

I’d have to disagree.

Not “can’t”.

Don’t want to. The anarchy and lawlessness serves their purposes so they are going to use it as long as necessary.

The company didn’t actually go out of business. They just took it online. Which is probably a smart move due to all the high crime in the area and the inability of the Portland police to have it under control.

“safety summits” and “expedited permits for storefront lighting” don’t make a damned bit of difference then city government actually prevents its LE from doing their jobs. Portland is a dead city like Detroit. It just hasn’t realized it yet.

A store open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 6PM?

Sounds like money laundering posing as high end retail.

I’d apply for that with both my Alexander Arms AR-50 Beowulf .50cal, and Barrett 82A1 .50 cal BMG.

Conflicting FB posts. Apparently she went to college there. And maybe worked at the airport. But one profile says she moved there in 2019.

” Ms Rains should move to America”.

NO, absolutely NOT!

She will just bring her opinions, beliefs and voting patterns with her!

Didn’t the rioters tell us that “insurance will pay for it”?

Yes.

Remember the Black firefighter, KB Balla, who was ‘devastated’ after rioters destroy a bar he spent life savings to build.. As we were standing in the front of the restaurant, people were in the back trying to steal the safe..

Twyana Balla, KB’s wife, posted footage of the scene and condemned the idea that the riots were somehow achieving justice for George Floyd..

They have no insurance to cover the arson, looting, and ..

Buddy of mine recently dropped his daughter off at a college just outside of Portland. Track scholarship.

They were not thrilled.

He said that every public park seemed to have homeless living in them. If businesses were open - many were not - they had private security.

Portland is the template for Democrat led cities. They truly think that capitalism free zones are a good thing. The far left - those that are really in charge - plan on weakening all businesses to the point of either bankruptcy or reliance on government largesse.

I have been told to keep an eye on bankruptcy laws. You will see how easy it will be for businesses to close but for business owners to still hold onto personal assets. This, in conjunction with stepped up IRS enforcement, is part of the left’s plan to shut down as many businesses as possible. The businesses that are left will be ones that are under the control of the government one way or the other.

I have even seen it in my little company. Weirdly, in the past 3 years, we have gone from less than 10% government related business to over 50% government related business. While it is keeping us open, I do fear it puts me in a compromised position. I already had a visit from an FBI agent asking me about my relationship with a county commissioner and my sales to various county agencies. Fortunately, I was able to document that my sales to the county predated the corrupt county commissioner’s election, but the shot across the bow was clear.

The left is ALL about control.
