The Biden administration has quietly approved plans to build a new crude oil terminal in the Gulf of Mexico off Texas, seemingly in contradiction to the president’s climate agenda.
The Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration approved the application (pdf) for Enterprise’s Sea Port Oil Terminal, one of four proposed offshore oil export terminals, on Monday.
According to the application, the port will be located offshore of Freeport, Texas. It will have 4.8 million barrels of storage capacity and add 2 million barrels per day to the U.S. oil export capacity.
In its 94-page decision (pdf), the Maritime Administration said that it had approved the application because the construction and operation of the port is “in the national interest and consistent with other policy goals and objectives.”
“The construction and operation of the Port is in the national interest because the Project will benefit employment, economic growth, and U.S. energy infrastructure resilience and security,” the administration wrote. “The Port will provide a reliable source of crude oil to U.S. allies in the event of market disruption and have a minimal impact on the availability and cost of crude oil in the U.S. domestic market.”
The decision states that the project will expand on an existing Enterprise Crude Houston operated terminal located in Houston and will generate 62 permanent jobs over 30 years. Additionally, 1,400 temporary construction jobs will be created, with the majority of the workforce being hired from existing labor pools in Texas and Louisiana, according to the application.
The Environmental Protection Agency quietly issued its approval (pdf) of the project in October but stressed that “more emphasis is needed to ensure that environmental justice and climate change considerations are included in the project for the protection of overburdened communities.”

Nah. They’re doing this so they can point to the approval when questioned later by angry constituents, but they’ll kill the project through additional permit delays, bureaucracy, etc., etc. so it will never be completed/open. Then they’ll blame it on the greedy oil companies not wanting to open it. (Yes, I know it makes no sense, but that’s what they’ll do.)
vig included for the family
Deep States, plural, in action.
In my opinion? Stupid Move.
It is bad enough to have huge storage on shore, but huge storage in the Gulf. Invitation for catastrophe.
Xi-O’Biden is dumb as a rock, his “advisors” are real Wacko’s.
Would reopening the keystone bring down prices?
I’m guessing that not spending trillions of dollars..in a metter of months.. that aren’t backed up by anything might bring down the cost of everything, too?
If I believed Brandon was trying to fix the mess he’s made ..or, that he cares one tiny bit..I’d say way to go Joe!
Nothing has changed. He said so himself..he’s not going to do anything different.
EPA stressed ... more emphasis is needed to ensure that environmental justice and climate change considerations are included in the project for the protection of overburdened communities.”

there could be lots of “overburdened communities” going forward, and so these sorts of projects will remain too little too late and scarce. Its for the children!!
Among other promises.
Knowing this jackass, he’s probably building it for China
Russia can’t sell oil or gas to China and india because it can’t deliver. Russia lacks the required tankers and pipelines to ship much oil
It is reported that foreign tankers are not available and there is no marine insurance available.
It is also reported that China is buying large quantities from Tajikistan when the oil ordered from Russia could not be delivered.
Reports are that the Russian oil business is failing
Lol. The same reports says that the electronics parts are removed from washing machines to put into Russian missiles.
Hmmm..... so soldiers stealing Ukrainian washing machines was not looting but rather acquiring rocket parts.
I was confused as to why the Kearson Russian soldiers looted the washing machines in the captured mortar shell warehouse. It is hard to get a looted washing machine home to a wife in Russia
And from the new terminal you can almost see Venezuela...
Yep. The timing sure coincides with the new LEASES GRANTED, TO CHEVRON, to drill for oil, IN VENEZUELA.
Geez.
The construction and operation of the Port is in the national interest because the Project will benefit employment, economic growth, and U.S. energy infrastructure resilience and security,” the administration wrote. “The Port will provide a reliable source of crude oil to U.S. allies in the event of market disruption and have a minimal impact on the availability and cost of crude oil in the U.S. domestic market.”
In other words, the oil is going to China (US allies)
Okay:) I don’t see a point to argue with the person believing in stuff in class of Tooth Fairy.
This is the ONLY area of oil production that Biden’s people actually support - which is increasing their ability to export oil, and LNG, so as to make sure we don’t end up with low prices at home, due to surplus’s here, which is presently the case with natural gas (it’s far, far, cheaper in Texas than Europe...but that will change in a few years with more export capability).
Follow the money, it outstrips ideology every time.
Hell, ya gotta have a terminal to load out our SOP.
EXPORT capacity?
Seems he intends to sell this to others rather than
keep for ourselves. More morbid grift?
“More oil for the rest of the world.
But not us.”
—————
That’s the upshot here. This does nothing whatsoever for us, except creating 62 permanent jobs, and perhaps some tax revenue. Where is there any increase in domestic production, to alleviate high fuel costs and help to abate inflation? [crickets].
Actually, there is enough American oil to serve our needs with an excess to be exported.
