NPR Presents Laughably Pathetic Thanksgiving Food Substitutes Due to Inflation
Newsbusters ^ | November 24, 2022 | P.J. Gladnick

Remember "funemployment?" That was a concept introduced during the Obama administration during 2009 to make people feel better about rampant unemployment by portraying it as a fun thing.

Well, flash forward to the inflationary era of 2022 during the Biden administration and National Public Radio has come up with something similar. Not the "Whip Inflation Now" (WIN) of the 1970s but more of an upbeat version that makes inflation sounds like a creative challenge or Winflation. And as part of the Winflation challenge, NPR has come up with what they think are creative ideas for whipping inflation during Thanksgiving dinner.

Picture the scene: The Thanksgiving guests are seated around the dinner table and eagerly anticipating the traditional dinner when the host reaches into the oven and pulls out a tray of... bacon. Imagine the depressing letdown of the guests when they realize it is no joke and they won't be eating turkey. Nothing could be destroy the mood more except perhaps if the host also presents his substitute for stuffing... sliced tomatoes.

How out of touch can ol’ NPR be?

Supermarkets put turkey on sale for about 50 cents a pound and people need to eat beyond just the one day.

Likewise, the traditional fresh veggies are typically on sale for about the same price — potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, etc. — and even cranberries to be had for no more than 2 bucks.

The traditional meal is still the cheapest around. (While bacon is seldom less than 4 bucks a pound, before it shrinks down in cooking...)

Plus there is no tryptophan to get the kiddies to sleep!

I do know a guy who is smoking racks of ribs, because the price went down (probably because people are buying turkey), but that’s a good substitution, not a sad one like NPRs.

Holy Hannah, I just read the NPR article. These people are nuts. This HAS to be satire.

I may have to post the whole article with pics, including the masked mic operator.

And conservatives FEAR these people?

Two stores: Publix and Kroger had turkeys for $0.49/lb. 13 lb turkey for $6.37.

The Cruising Gourmet sketch with Dave Thomas was aired once in 1981 IIRC. It was never rerun. The turkey stuffing scene must have ruffled some feathers..

We got a 10.5 pound Butterball for $10.16. And there was a whole freezer case full of them, an they ran the sale for two weeks running!

No turkey shortage in Flyover Country. :)

We will enjoy our Sprial-cut Honey Ham and other tasty sides

Of course the NPR suggestions are not for them, just their stupid audience.

Even the aquarium fish are suffering this year. They get just a few bread crumbs left over from the stuffing mix.

That’s when the House Wizard, Nanzi Polizei, advised everyone to take up playing guitar, writing poetry, twerking for Disney and painting pictures of fruit in a bowl. What a time that was.

My wife and I purchased TWO 12-pound turkeys (one a Plainville!) for a little less than EIGHT BUCKS. You are correct...NPR is full of sh*t. (They probably shop at Whole Foods.)

From the NPR article: Whereas one pound of Russets makes two servings of mashed potatoes, one pound of lima beans makes 13 servings of mashed beans.

???? People eat over 1/2 pound of mashed potatoes for a serving??? A pound of potatoes should yield at least 4 to 6 servings....

One pound of mashed lima beans yield 13 servings... LOL! People still don’t like lima beans, even renamed, or even mashed! That’s slightly over 1 oz per serving.
