Republican House majority climbs to 220 with win in California

Republicans’ House majority in the next Congress climbed to 220 on Tuesday, when Republican Kevin Kiley defeated his Democratic opponent, Kermit Jones, in the tight race for California’s 3rd Congressional District.

The Associated Press called the race for Kiley on Tuesday afternoon, two weeks after voters headed to the polls to cast their ballots in the eastern California district. Kiley, a California State Assembly member, won with 53 percent of the vote.

Kiley’s win brings Republicans’ House majority to 220, while Democrats currently hold 212 seats. Three races are still uncalled by the AP: California’s 13th District, Alaska’s at-large district and Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R) Colorado district.

While the AP has not called Boebert’s race, which appears headed for a recount with Boebert holding a slight edge, her Democratic challenger Adam Frisch conceded on Friday, saying he believed the outcome of the election was unlikely to change

Gonna catch he## here for saying this, but, say what you will about McCarthy, he engineered the success we had in Central and Eastern California.

If those close House races had been mismanaged, we would still have to deal with Speaker Pelosi for two more years.

CA-13 has Repub Duarte ahead by about 600 votes. NY Times says over 95% of the votes have been counted, but they’ve been showing that for about a week. I read elsewhere over 99% of the votes have been counted. If Duarte hangs on, and he’s had a small lead for at least a week, then that will be 221 seats, with Boebert waiting on a recount, which will take place in Dec.

Ass. Press. is no longer a credible news source, same as CNN or MSNBC. I summarily ignore it unless backed up by a credible source.

I read that concession has no meaning. You can concede and if you end up ahead, you are the winner. I guess you could immediately resign but that’s rather doubtful. Boebert looks like she’s got it though, hopefully the recount will just be a formality.

Who knew AP was the official caller of all races? Must be in the constituion...somewhere..I'll keep looking.

Kiley, a California State Assembly member, won with 53 percent of the vote.
... and with 74% of sentient voters.

If Cheney wasn’t kicked off the committee, we probably wouldn’t have won those NY races thanks to Elise campaigning.

McCarthy, he engineered the success we had in Central and Eastern California.

Two elections in a row now where California House Republicans have been able to capitalize on California's ballot harvesting laws after getting their butts kicked by Democrats using this technique in 2018.

We can win with ballot harvesting, early voting, and mail voting if we use these tools.

Close to my guesstimate of 222 before the election. Yet somehow the election was a massive failure according to the MSM. I think it is a fictional narrative to prop up Biden.

Indeed, taking the majority is in itself a huge victory.

....yeah, I know... I was done with all of this stuff...but....can’t keep my fingers off the keyboard...why is there supposed to be a recount when Lauren Boebert’s opponent openly conceded....? doesn’t that obviate the need for a recount, or is one mandated by some arcane Colorado election law...? jus’ askin’ .....

53% to the Democrat would be considered a landslide, and Fox News would’ve called it ten minutes after the polls closed.
