Russia is apparently walking back its earlier goals to overthrow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s government in its faltering invasion.
On Monday, a Kremlin spokesman said the “special operation” in Ukraine ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin is not focused on regime change in Kyiv.
“No, the president has spoken about this already,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, according to TASS, the official Russian news agency.
In February, Mr. Putin called on the Ukrainian military to oust Mr. Zelenskyy.

So I wonder what changed his mind?
Oh yeah---Kherson.
Buying time for a build-up.
I think that if Russia/Putin agree to peace talks, they will stick very hard to the no-NATO and non defense demands.
If they do, it tells me they realized they weren’t ready to deal with a full Ukraine invasion this time, but they know what they need for the next move, in say, 5 years, and they’ll work hard on their tech.build up, including getting support from their current supplier axis.
Kherson was a fait accompli and both Putin and his generals knew it. That they are unable to remove/kill Zelensky is also an inescapable reality.
The war is lost. Russia’s position is untenable and they will not be able to get back to their pre-war military strength and they know it.
To me this means they know Crimea is indefensible. So now they pivot from waging war to trying to rush a peace so they can hold on to some of what they’ve stolen.
My advice to the Ukrainians is to press on until the Russian will to fight and their ability to fight collapses.
The Ukrainians don’t have to win this war in the traditional sense. They simply need to keep denying the Russians any victories.
Zelenskiy is an accomplished actor. He can change roles on a dime
But Putin can’t.
Russia can stop their attacks.
Russia can turn Putin over for trial and ask for forgiveness.
Best thing for Russia. Win win all around.
never heard that as being an intent...we know for certain that the dancing perv wanted us to take Putin and Russia out...
we know that Russia was trying to eliminate Ukraine ... that’s why they’re fighting so hard
LOL, even Kremlin propagandists admit Kyiv was the targer.
Wait, Putin is now okay with drug-addicted, neo-Nazi' leaders? Lol
Of course they want him to stay put. Zelenskyy is the best weapon Putin has; his constant demand for money is going to America down with him.
Thank you, General MeganC for your input!
Well these aged well:

To your delight!!
LMAO.
Maybe the neo-Nazi Zaluzhnyi will invariably replace ZelenskyyIdiot in the near future cause the increasing whispers in the halls of NATO in Haren/Brussels is that the future claims and assertions by ZelenskyyIdiot can not be trusted and should now be vigorously questioned.
Go figure...
Mighty white of Putin.

It’s not even that. I do expect at some point Russia will throw everything into a Battle of the Bulge type offensive.
But even if Russia takes Bakhmut or retakes Lyman would that break the Ukrainian will to fight?
