The Walt Disney Company has tapped its former CEO Bob Iger to return to head the company for two years, firing his successor Bob Chapek in a move that stunned the entertainment industry.
Chapek is leaving after the company posted lower than expected earnings in the last quarter. Hollywood’s creative community had grumbled about Chapek’s cost-cutting measures and sometimes blunt approach to talent, while theme park regulars had been unhappy with price hikes.
So, it’s back to Iger.
“The Board has concluded that as Disney embarks on an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely situated to lead the company through this pivotal period,” Susan Arnold, Disney’s chairman, said in a statement.
Arnold thanked Chapek for leading the company through the pandemic, while enthusing over Iger’s stature within the company, which he led for 15 years before his ouster in early 2020.

Disney stock is down 41.44% on the year.
You institute woke/progressive/socialistic policies and people vote with their wallets!
Get woke, go broke.
Time to fire a lot of woksters.
Maybe then, Disney MIGHT have a chance at a comeback.
We stopped everything Disney in 2017 when they really started pushing this woke crap. Unless the rid of it all, apologize and change we’re never going back.
“Is Iger any less woke?”
Igor has displayed a knack for good business sense. He held the CEO position with Disney for around 15 years. Iger is a widely respected and liked figure at Disney. During his previous tenure he oversaw the deals to acquire Pixar, Lucasfilm and its “Star Wars” properties, and Marvel — all of which have become multibillion-dollar intellectual property behemoths and major parts of the parks which needs to be the cash cow for their movies.
But how he’ll handle the current problems is a two way street. One of the normal processes for a CEO of a major company is that he is under a guided contract to accomplish certain things. Chapek was too. And their big guy that got the business back on track years ago from Paramount, Mike Eisner, was under the thumb of the company, also. But his guide was expansion.
Eisner’s 21-year stint at Disney saw the revitalization of the company’s poorly performing animation studios with successful films such as The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), and The Lion King (1994), a period known as the Disney Renaissance. Eisner also led major investments and expansion of the company’s theme parks both domestically and globally, including the openings of Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios) in 1989, Euro Disney (now Disneyland Paris) in 1992, Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 1998, Disney’s California Adventure Park and Tokyo Disney Sea in 2001, Walt Disney Studios Park in 2002 and Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005. His films at the time he brought in were Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), and The Little Mermaid (1989). And it didn’t hurt that he acquired many other media sources, including ABC, most of ESPN, Fox Family (now known as Freeform) and The Muppets franchise.
People like Eisner and Iger were the reason Disney grew and prospered after Walt passed in 1966. Hopefully the board will stay out of Iger’s way and let him do his job.

But didn’t all the woke/lgbtq stuff start under Iger?
Good point!
And the wokeness has DESTROYED EVERY ONE OF THOSE FRANCHISES. I will wait and examine which (if any) reversal happens, but as of now, I have no plans to "do" anything Disney whatsoever.
“But didn’t all the woke/lgbtq stuff start under Iger?”
Iger must play the game—he can’t simply zap any woke that tries to enter Disney. However, he can put the word out downstream that woke is to be reigned in and now.
It’s like swapping out one cog in the degenerate machine with another cog. It won’t change the machine any.
iger is the architect of disney’s wokeness
think about it
how has disney changed in the last 15 years?
Nobody NEEDS Disney.
Every day can now be Gay Days at Disney.
That’s what I was thinking. Disney is shoring up it’s wokeness. The guy they ousted seemed less woke than Iger.
Moral people won’t go back. My nephew’s family hung on too long but are done with the lgbtqxyz indoctrination that has gone on.
I think they have gone past the point of no return
Well, yeah. Who picked Iger’s successor?
“And the wokeness has DESTROYED EVERY ONE OF THOSE FRANCHISES.”
In this case you might have to call the destruction collateral damage. The possibilities of successful operations of each of those endeavors was very secure when they first started. But with the people in charge, and that wasn’t Chapek and isn’t now Iger who are the ones that have pressed the issues to “dirty” the water. Both Chapek and Iger were being good little boys following their contracts. And that is the most surprising thing about Iger’s return...why?
Walt started as a democrat but changed over later in life based upon his business needs. But the new regime is blatant liberal and has taken a bowed down position to the state and Pelosi who was in on a sale for the purchased 50 call options of Walt Disney Company stock worth between $100,001 and $250,000 at any given time.
So talk walks and cash is a splash.

If you listen to Overlord DVD (also known as Doomcock) on youtube it sounded as though Chapek was already pushing back hard on woke starting last year .... making me think they are bringing Iger back in as either cover for finally killing it or as a way to stop Chapek from falling back from it.
