If they hadn’t tossed out all the younger enlisted who refused to take the vaxx, they might not have had this problem, you think?

I was a Navy Reserve recruiter from 1986 to 1998. We had a program call the “Advanced Paygrade Program” where we would enlist people at a paygrade equal to their civilian experience and education, up to E-6 (which was rare). I made a living out of recruiting with this program. We recruited welders, machinists (mechanics), equipment operators, electricians, even clerks and storekeepers. On their first annual two weeks of training they would go to a mini-boot camp where they would learn Navy tradition, how to wear uniforms, etc. The program was around for years but was discontinued shortly after I retired.

DO NOT RISK, FOR ANOTHER ENLISTMENT, EVERYTHING THAT YOU SPENT 20 YEARS TO EARN.

Rinse, Repeat. Retire from the military the day you are retirement eligible.

As a member of General Officer Personal Staff for over eight years, and as the NCOIC of the 82d’s IG Office and the Assistance and Investigations NCOIC - don’t let one “Awe Sh*t” whip out a 1000 Ataboy’s! I saw too many NCO’s leave with nothing for mistake made because they were reenlistment ineligible thus not making 20-years, or someone over 20 get popped for something stupid like a relation with a subordinate, black marketing, etc.

If you’ve already retired - no matter how much you loved the military, do not return as a service member. There are plently of ways a command can make you Civil Service, even on board a ship, plane or dune-buggy - you just have to agree to take all the shots and your ID Card will give you a corresponding POW rank if captured, e.g., if you are a GS-11 your grade will be LTC. Most senior NCO’s are eligible for GS-11/12. Imagine getting captured and out ranking the guy on active duty commanding the ship;)

One of the guys in my platoon on Parris Island was a retread from the Air Force. He had to get a waiver to enlist because he was 29 years old.

Shortly before graduation, our DI’s brought him out in front of the platoon and told us that he warranted special recognition, because he had kept up with us young studs for 13 weeks, and he had gutted it out despite being an old man...

“We have already lost the next war. Learn Chinese now.”

You have already surrendered, and without so much as a shot being fired. Pretty pathetic.

“That’s why the Navy recruited older men for the SeaBees in WWII. Lots of skilled tradesmen, who were out of the age brackets for the draft.”

That’s a fact. The SeaBees performed some construction miracles.

Sorry not buying it. 41 year old grunts? No way! Somebody is zooming us.

As a veteran, I used to encourage younger people who were still confused about what to do with their lives (that’s before they started staring at cellphones during every hour they were awake) to go into the military for a few years. I don’t do that anymore.

That’s the fundamental issue. Why join any organization that rewards wokeness and penalizes competence and ability?

This means grandmothers and grandfathers, people whose bodies are just starting to break down which means more injuries and more disability pensions.

It is hard to recruit young male warriors when the same ad also is directed at your sister, your mom, and even your grandma.

I know what you mean, I don’t think I would be comfortable in a sub with some of these younger guys, knowing how we had to depend on eachother when the crap hit the fan!

The SeaBees were started after experiences on Wake Island, where civilian contractors had been brought in to build fortifications and other infrastructure on the island. There were labor disputes that hampered construction, and when the Japanese invaded, they had a bunch of civilians on the island who had no military training.

Roflmao, I spent 2 years on active duty in the Navy and 5 years as inactive (going to meetings).

I can just picture a 41 year old man and a 17 year old Seaman Recruit mopping the same passageway, or chipping paint together, washing dishes together and on and on.

Ridiculous on it’s face (in peacetime).

“”Sorry not buying it. 41 year old grunts? No way! Somebody is zooming us.””

The Army did it for a while when we were desperate for people during the Muslim wars.

‘’Army raises maximum enlistment age for new recruits from 40 to 42 By LISA BURGESS• June 23, 2006
The increase to age 42 applies to both men and women, and older applicants are eligible for the same enlistment bonuses and other incentives available to any other applicant’’’

I wouldn’t want to be in a foxhole with one of them. The glare from their cellphone would screw up my night vision.

I’m just offended that they consider 41 y/os to be “older, middle aged.”

My brother-in-law didn’t join the US Marshals until he was 34 years old. They would not hire you after you turned 35.
He said that they wanted you to have 20 years of service in before you turned 57. At that time you were out at 57 years old.
I believe that was changed. He was 60 when he retired.
His pre employment interview was with Clint Peoples. A famous Texas Ranger before being appointed US Marshal in Texas.
