US Navy Recruits Older Middle Age Sailors

The US Navy is facing recruiting challenges in a tight labor market, and has raised its maximum enlistment age to 41 in order to attract more sailors to the fleet. The Navy is also looking to increase its use of bonuses and other financial incentives to attract recruits.

While most of these middle age recruits will be eligible to serve in combat assignments in some of the most physically demanding Navy communities, including the NAVY SEALs, have age cutoffs that differ from the general enlistment age, reports the Navy Times.

“As we continue to navigate a challenging recruiting environment,” US Navy Commander Dave Benham told the Navy times. “Raising the enlistment age allows us to widen the pool of potential recruits, creating opportunities for personnel who wish to serve.”

US citizens above the age of 41 have another option for serving their country at sea. Older individuals can obtain Merchant Mariner Credentials from the USCG and apply to sail aboard US Navy ships as civil service sailors with the Military Sealift Command. Recruits deciding on this option, however, must be able to obtain a security clearance and be capable of passing pre-employment physical examination. Those who want to sail as officers will need a USCG license and should contact a state maritime academy for information on enrollment.

Surely more anti-white and pro gay rhetoric should have helped with recruitment goals

I don’t know if this applied to all government jobs, but to join the FBI in the eighties you had to be under 35. My guess is if you were over 30 you’d have had a hard time back then. The actual stated reason was you didn’t get the same work out of older workers than you did from younger ones. Younger workers took fewer sick days and lasted a full twenty years. At 40 you’d be sixty at retirement, which was two years after I began to take time off for sickness and other health issues. So, since the government is allowed to discriminate, this is a surprise.

When I talked to someone in the know he said that the issues with youth were, in order, drugs, arrests, physically unfit, just plain stupid and face tattoos.

A better option might be to bring back the press gang. Comb the waterfronts and grab up fit men (and women too, I guess). After all, this worked for the Royal Navy for centuries. It should work for the US Navy today.

We have already lost the next war.
Learn Chinese now.
There won’t be any “Press 2 for English” when the Chinese are ruling us.

Probably some level heads with valuable skills at the upper end of the new age bracket. Possibly prior service that got out for whatever reason after their first or second enlistment—go to college, for example. Now comes a second (or even first) chance at a Navy pension until they make their twenty years. Folks that can stand deck watch or or do traditional, demanding desks without complaint. Older folks to leaven the young people that are coming in. To “show ‘em how it’s done”...?

There’s an old documentary by Gwynne Dyer titled “Anybody’s Son Will Do”. He talks about how various armies turn civilians into soldiers. Shows US Marine Boot Camp, Soviet training, and various other countries. At the end, Dyer says that you can teach an 18 year old to be a soldier, and you can make him like it. You can also teach a 32 year old to be a soldier, but you aren’t gonna be able to make him like it...

Well considering the Navy wants homosexuals primarily , I think most of the older ones already died of aids, domestic Pelosi hammer domestic disturbances , murder suicides and murder/suicides.

That’s why the Navy recruited older men for the SeaBees in WWII. Lots of skilled tradesmen, who were out of the age brackets for the draft.

They're much more ignorant and way easier to manipulate when ya get them at that age. Looking at the FBI today explains a lot about who they hire and that state of that agency. Obviously hiring younger people did not help at all.

US Navy Recruits Older Middle Age Sailors

I doubt individuals of "Middle Age" will be interested, and if they are, they can't be treated like an 18 or 19 year old.
