Republicans have secured a U.S. House majority, barely. Barely is better than not at all. But a slim margin will pose daunting challenges to Republicans, who will be led by Kevin McCarthy. The Californian will win the speaker’s gavel with the full backing of his conference. He’ll notch a win because the stakes are enormous. Even, finally, tough-nosed conservative Matt Gaetz knows this.
McCarthy wins because he’ll cut a deal with Freedom Caucus members who backed Arizona’s Andy Biggs for speaker. Biggs won 31 votes to McCarthy’s 188. Biggs was trounced but really not, because those 31 votes loom large. Republicans may just top 220 seats. 218 seats are a majority. McCarthy can’t afford more than a few renegades among his conference, so Freedom Caucus members will exact their pounds of flesh.
McCarthy only becomes speaker after the whole House votes in January. The Democrats will nominate creaky Nancy Pelosi, who’s made a few noises about sticking around, or, more likely, Hakeem Jefferies. Nancy may prefer running the minority to life in retirement with Paul -- and any nudist houseguests intruders who happen along.
The question to ask McCarthy and the usual suspects who’ll fill other GOP leadership roles is, “Now that you have the majority, what do you plan to do with it?”
The fear is that House Republicans will spend the next two years as deadweight, simply serving to drag down Biden’s and Chuck Schumer’s anti-everything-that-makes-sense measures.
Stopping Democrats is critical, indeed, but not sufficient. Voters don’t just want naysaying. Surely House Republicans learned something from the recent midterm elections?

Too many Republican candidates, regardless the offices sought, spent too much time hawking their resumés (Republicans always believe they’re applying for jobs) and messaging negatives -- tempered, in many instances -- about Democrats. But voters expect more than resumés and negatives.
The next two years are about House Republicans building a record full of initiatives that voters approve. A catalogue of smart legislation helps lay the groundwork for the 2024 elections, which include electing a president. No small potatoes.
Slow down and stop the Biden agenda. That is about all they can do. And investigate the hell out of Joe...slow them up with subpoenas and testimony.
“what do you plan to do with it?”
ask Hastert, crybaby Boehner and backstabber Paul Ryan. Former deep-state moles..
Investigate Bidens. Get the truth out about J6. FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS!!!
“Slow down and stop the Biden agenda. That is about all they can do”.
You are correct.
It will be a repeat on a smaller scale of Trump putting a speed bump in the road to slow down the coming train wreck.
That’s pedo-molester Hastert.
Republicans have a long history of having the majority and doing essentially NOTHING with it. The last Republican majority that even remotely followed through with anything was under Newt Gingrich and the “Contract with America” - which really only delivered a bit. It did, at least, force Bill Clinton to partially comply with demands for a balanced budget. Of course, the “surplus” that is much touted at the WJC library exhibit never actually materialized anywhere but on paper... it was a step in the right direction, that all have run the opposite direction of ever since.
To say nothing of the egotistical several times married Newt from Georgia.
The same thing they've done every other time they've had a slim majority...share power with the Democrats.
The GOP will, as usual, celebrate a "majority" with a massive circle jerk and an infinite number of promises of what they will do as soon as they have the WH too...
Just remember all the brilliant GOP accomplishments when Trump was President...
They spent most of their time blocking Trump at every opportunity...
For the first time this century, patriots need to hold GOP feet and balls to the fire and demand the return of at least a few of the freedoms & liberties the communists have taken away...
Never mind spinning your wheels with the BS of "impeachment" or Hunter Biden!
Accomplish something meaningful, or else!
Give them 6 months and then, if necessary, clean up their failure with prejudice and rope...
“feet and balls to the fire”. I prefer their balls in a VICE, every time they fail, give the vice handle a full turn to the right!
Revenge!
If it does nothing but STOP future legislation from the Democrat Party, I will consider it a win.
Democrats (Administration and Senate) will not allow Republicans to offer up and enact ANY legislation that might possibly work towards fixing the economy, etc. They can’t allow that to become a reality just in time for 2024 elections..
But they CAN do things like put a hold on funding UKR until a more exhaustive examination of how funds/arms were distributed, used and where the CASH went (and to whom).
They can also stop this J6 nonsense, or at least redirect its focus to where the true blame needs to be - the FBI. One thing I’d like to see is those two ‘Republicans’ (now election losers) brought back in UNDER OATH to answer questions.
As an added benefit, firing all the rabid leftist chairmen of House committees will go a long way to stemming the decline.
The Republican plan - NOTHING AS USUAL.
Oh wait, they do have a plan they will write piles and piles of sternly worded letters expressing just how disappointed they are with Democrats.
It’ll add a little drama to the caving in.
Majority of 2 minus 10 RINOs = -8
They’ll do whatever Deep State permits.
We won’t have our country back until we secure the ballot box and replace every single, sodding member of the House and Senate with people loyal to our republic.
Any Republicans like Paul Horcher get elected to the US House this month?

They will block Trump, instead of Biden.
Of course the R-team won’t keep the House. They have the slimmest majority, which is just enough to be blamed for the worsening US economy. The news (other than the usual Trump stuff) is going to be nonstop blaming the GOP for the terrible economy.
2024 will be a complete wipeout in favor of the Rats. The Rat team has the best scriptwriters and it’s going perfectly for them right now.
