5 feet of snow? That makes me homesick for Michigan. I grew up in Detroit. I shoveled up and salted down many a sidewalk. The air had a distinct winter smell. Fresh and airid

New York State has plenty of prisoners. Gang 'em up with chains, and give 'em snow shovels.

My son is in Rochester NY, 75 miles east of Buffalo. Rochester is only forecasted to get 1”.

That’s crazy!!!.

Apparently the lake effect snow dumps really quick when the air gets off of the lake. So Buffalo gets buried. And by the time it gets to Rochester, the winds are whipping the moisture stream North and South, so that The remaining snow gets scattered over a much larger area.

It was crazy in Ashtabula County yesterday morning. Sheriff declared a level 3 Snow emergency. Literally means you get arrested for being on the roads.

Highway reports said there was up to 7.5 inches of ice on the freeway!!!

I live 30 miles east of the events, we had ice roads, but not the snow.

Level 3 snow emergency downgraded to level 1 in Ashtabula County: What the sheriff wants you to know

The kids in the neighborhood had a blast! (Parents not so much.)

I remember that snowfall in Chicago. There were mountains of snow from the street in front of the houses. Two stories tall. First time we all ever went sledding we used cut up cardboard boxes.

5 feet??! I dont not believe this for one second. if they have shown us anything over the past few years it’s the need to Extreme the news. and “5 Feet” is now evidence they have lost control of the acceptable boundries of extremism...

I used to live on the highest hill off the lake. Having the house be buried was not uncommon.

Good, Lord! My wife grew up in Hawaii and has never seen snow, except a light dusting now and then when we’ve driven up to Tahoe from Calif. But she almost desperately wants to see a real snowstorm, at least once in her life, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to help her realize her dream.

I’ve considered a short trip to Buffalo in the past, but this storm would be TOO MUCH, lol. Don’t want to get stuck somewhere for a week or two. And I don’t want to EVER shovel another shovelfull of snow in my life! I’m convinced that’s how I got my bad back in the first place.

Why is an annual event an “emergency”?

I am in Buffalo. There is no disaster. It is a typical lake effect storm. We have one or two a year, and are quite used to it. 1977 was a unique event, but even that was easily survivable for all but an unfortunate few in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The hysteria is laughable, and in fact people from Buffalo laugh at it.
