GOP Sen. Josh Hawley: Grand 'Old Party Is Dead; Time to Bury It'

Lamenting the reality the Senate will remain in Democrats' control for the next two years, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is calling for an overhaul of the establishment Republican Party in Washington, D.C.

"The old party is dead," Hawley tweeted Saturday night. "Time to bury it. Build something new."

Hawley was reacting to the news Republican Adam Laxalt's votes have been overtaken by Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., clinching the Senate majority for Democrats.

"Washington Republicanism lost big Tuesday night," Hawley tweeted earlier this week. "When your 'agenda' is to cave to Big Pharma on insulin, cave to Schumer on gun control & Green New Deal ('infrastructure'), and tease changes to Social Security and Medicare, you lose.

"What are Republicans actually going to do for working people?" he had asked in a previous tweet Thursday. "How about, to start: tougher tariffs on China, reshore American jobs, open up American energy full throttle, 100K new cops on the street. Unrig the system."

The remarks, effectively supporting the agenda of former President Donald Trump, were pointed at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who pulled Senate Leadership funding from Arizona to help Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania. Both races were lost, giving the Democrats the majority again.

"You can't expect independent voters to vote Republican unless you give them an agenda they care about," Hawley further railed on Twitter

I agree - it’s time to move on from the old dirtbags and Bush turds that sold us out

I’ve been saying this for some time. The GOP ran on nothing. There was no agenda and this was purposeful. I didn’t really expect a red wave because there was no platform at all put forth. They were exposed when they got control of both chambers and the Presidency and they had to admit that they had lied on their top issue for YEARS - Obamacare. They do not want that again, they do not want their lies put to the test so they figured run on nothing, win the house and lose the Senate and therefore have zero responsibility ... again. It’s what they wanted. It may be what they get. But I’m sick of these ‘us first’ jerks that are the power in the GOP.

I think ballot harvesting in California started before the pandemic.

Good point.

I’m wondering if we are too far into the march to Marxism to turn it around.

“How To Cook A Frog” discusses this.

Yes. It took the pandemic for ballot harvesting to spread from CA to the other blue states. It's not going to go away, and conservatives must learn to play that game. Let's not forget that conservative growth in the Latino vote is a real thing, and even the black vote is starting to show signs of erosion for the Democrats. It will take real work with boots on the ground, but Republicans can make this work in 2024 - or at least remove some of the advantage Dems have with mail-in voting and ballot harvesting.

One thing's for sure - sitting around complaining about this practice as we've been doing since 2020 didn't do a thing to help us.

Trump must go. He has turned the GOP from a Washongton DC RINO club into a Trump cult. Neither is good for America.

The GOP is still a "DC Rino" club (i.e. establishment) and they still hate him, so the second statement is inaccurate. The first is just an opinion. The last one is true, as long as you mean RINOs and Dims.

Just like some foolish Republicans in PA voted for Act 77 to allow mail in ballots that abetted voting fraud and encouraged voting by unmotivated or uninformed voters. I looked to see the roll call on this vote and it doesn’t come up. Are they hiding this?

Name the last GOP presidential candidate that called for a balanced budget?

That was two decades ago. Is Trump calling for a cut in entitlements?

They aren't. That's the problem. All we have, are always spenders. Trump, Hawley and the rest pimped multiple stimulus upon America, and it never stopped. All this debt has helped to destroy the present. The cycle of more spending to people for the upcoming recession will gain traction as well.

“Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who pulled Senate Leadership funding from Arizona to help Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania. Both races were lost, giving the Democrats the majority again.”

Hawley is right. McConnell and McCarthy inspire no one, they have no agenda conservatives are interested in and seem to answer only to big lobbyists. The old Roman Senate was never as corrupt as this one.

“Lamenting the reality the Senate will remain in Democrats’ control for the next two years,...”

What is an acceptable reason a sane patriot would not fight tooth and nail to expose every fraud of this election cycle, rather than “lament” and accept a fraud as “reality”.

Commiecrats flagrantly commit election fraud, and ballsless, spineless, dishonorable RHINOS aid and abet them. The commies will NEVER RELINQUISH POWER! NEVER! THEY MUST BE FORCED TO!

"I would love to change from Republican to Independent; however, to work as an election clerk on election day in Maine one must be registered as a Republican or Demorat."

I guess I need to ask what you have gotten out of being a Republican election clerk all the elections you have worked? Has the Republican Party given back to you what you have given it? Have they listened to their constitutents in Maine? How effective is the Maine Republican State Committee? I live in New York State, and the New York Republican State Committee is worthless, and has been for a very long time.

"This is not about the party, it’s about learning from the 2020 election instead of re-living it repeatedly."

It is about the Party. The GOP didn't learn anything from the attempted steal in 2000, or they chose not to learn anything. There were times they had control over both Houses and The White House during these past 20 years, and did nothing about election reform. They knowingly let the 2020 steal go by without batting an eyelash, or even admitting fraud took place. If your own party leaders, and officials refuse to admit that fraud is an ongoing problem, and that it's only getting worse, why accept that behavior, and continue to be a member of that party? They don't respect you or me enough to even want to protect our votes, because they take us for granted. They only know us when they want something from us. The rest of the time we don't exist.

Right now the fraud has been concentrated on MAGA candidates. Wait until they switch to a general steal from every GOPer from RINO to MAGA - all. Then the GOPE will get upset.

You just now learning this? I learned it long, long ago. The GOP hold their voting base in far deeper contempt than the Democrats hold theirs.

"Start by sticking a fork in the turtle. His leadership has FAILED."

He's gotten rich off that failed leadership. We like to say the Democrats are the epitome of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome next time around. Well, Congressional Republicans, specifically those in the Senate practice that type of insanity as well. From 2007 through 2022, McConnell has served as Senate Majority, and Senate Minority Leader. That's 15 years. How he's lasted that long in such powerful positions is beyond me. If I had to guess, he has either threatened, intimidated, or paid off the people who have continued to vote him into those two spots. He needs to go...not just from the Senate party leader positions, but from the Senate as well.

"I always considered him a forked tongue shill that received undo coverage by Hannity. He is there to manipulate the people and not promote conservatism."

Graham has always played both sides. He has no loyalties, and will say what people want to hear, with no plans for ever following through on anything. He's one of the biggest phonies in the Republican Party, and the Senate. He's disingenuous and self-serving.
