PULLED IN TWO DIRECTIONS

21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.....23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ... (Philippians 1:21,23)

As Christians, we are pulled in two directions. We all want to go to heaven, but this life also holds great appeal. We are like the youngster in Sunday school who listened intently while the teacher told about the beauties of heaven. She concluded by saying, "Raise your hand if you want to go to heaven." Every hand shot up immediately...except one. "Why don't you want to go to heaven, Johnny?" "Well," he replied, "Mom just baked an apple pie for dinner."

Now, we don't need to feel guilty for having a strong desire to enjoy life. Marriage, a family, a fulfilling job, travel, recreation...these all have a legitimate appeal. But if the delights of our earthly home are so attractive that we lose sight of God's purpose for putting us here, something's wrong.

The apostle Paul had mixed feelings too. Although he believed he would be released from prison, he knew that he could possibly fall victim to Nero's sword. This created a conflict. He longed to be with Christ, for that would be "far better" (Philippians 1:23). He also wanted to live...not merely to enjoy life but because he was needed by his fellow believers (v.24).

Paul was pulled in two directions, and in both cases it was for the highest reason. What about us?

Howdy, luvie.

When I checked the NOAA radar last evening, I saw y’all were under a freeze warning! OUCH!! I hope you had all the kitties’ warm spots ready for use.

That cold is over here now and you know how happy I am about THAT. LOL

Hey there, radu!

I noticed that you were much colder than we were today and still are. Did you stay busy at the museum, now that it was the last weekend. I know you’re going to miss going so much!

It was way colder here yesterday [50ish] than the day before [80ish], and our high today, after it did freeze last night, was 53. It’s about 45 now. No freeze tonight but there will be tomorrow night. I guess winter is very close by.

The kitties do have their warm spots. They either have the self-heating pads [I wish they made those for hoomans! Wonder if we could use a kitty pad. LOL] or a soft fuzzy throw in the case of the ones that sleep in the shed. I have a wool blanket I will probably put out there in the next couple of days. They are fine.

That will melt the snow off the lake ice, especially if it rains tonight. I just took a peek and a lot of the snow has already melted in just the last couple of hours. Wow! Earlier, the lake was solid white and now the ice is showing in large patches.

It’ll make things rough for y’all if the temps drop below freezing overnight - - slippery streets. I hope you don’t have to go anywhere tomorrow.

How many ducks are showing up these days? Are the numbers increasing yet?

It didn’t get all that cold there other than overnight. I was afraid it had gotten almost as cold there as it did here today. Still a drastic change from 80s and your kitties probably don’t have much in the way of winter coats yet. I imagine those who get to use the self-heating pads really appreciate them.

As for the weekend, that was covered in #11 earlier this evening. :-)

Well, the 50s felt a whole lot cooler after the 80 from the day before. I don’t have my winter coat either. LOL! The poor kitties can’t grow a winter coat, because if they start one, then it gets hot and they shed it once again. Grey and Li’l Bit especially love the heated beds. Midnight and Shadow love staying in the shed. Heck I don’t know where Coal sleeps or even hangs out when she’s not eating on the front porch. She is a mystery. :)

I will go check out that post. I haven’t scrolled the thread yet.

Thankfully I have no place to go tomorrow.

We have to be pushing a 100 ducks lately...they just keep coming. And they still play bunch ball...I throw a little corn here and they all come here. The I throw a little there and they all head there. Dumb ducks.

I’m sure the 50s did feel a lot cooler. Be glad you didn’t have to deal with 30s all day. It did get up to 40 here but was 34 with a biting wind up on the mountain.
A lot of TN was in the 70s yesterday but we only made it to 63, courtesy of Nicole. It was an ugly, ugly day.

Is there not room in the shed to put self-heating pads for Midnight and Shadow? With your crazy weather not allowing the cats to get good winter coats, they’d probably love them as much as the others do. They do sound really nice.

Yikes! That’s double what the last estimate I heard was. They’re moving in fast! If it ends up like last winter, they won’t be able to play bunch ball because they’ll take up the whole yard. LOL! That was insane last year!

Good that you don’t have to head out tomorrow though it might not rain much overnight. The bulk is to the west and isn’t moving your way. Maybe you’ll get lucky. The streets will be sloppy enough from melting snow.

Well, not as chilly as you have to deal with, but much cooler than it has been. I’m not complaining, though. I did enough of that when it was 100+ last summer. LOL!

Absolutely happy that we didn’t deal with 30s all day. I was feeling sorry for you all day when I saw how cold it was there. I also wondered how much grief you’d get from Nicole when I saw the radar on HurricaneTrack. Did it just rain or was the wind nasty, too. One of our FRiends in VA was under tornado watches and she was very anxious all day.

I do need to find a large one for the shed. The ones I have are too small for that area. They ARE nice. That’s why I wish they made them for people. I can’t find one anywhere. I might just buy a kitty one and put it under the mattress pad....and not tell anyone what it is. LOL!

I’m so sorry you have been suffering with an ear inflammation. The pain can really bring you down. Glad to read that it seems to be improving today. This cold weather just makes it worse, I’ll bet!

A lot of TN got rain from Nicole but guess which area didn’t. LOL We had drizzle here but on the mountain, it was drizzle and pea soup fog all day. No wind - just a little breeze. The fog finally cleared out about the time I left the museum to come home and it was nice to be able to see. Going up yesterday morning was NOT a fun drive.

We just caught the western edge of the storm so severe weather wasn’t an issue here like it was along the costal states. We could have used some rain but the bottom of the rain gauge was barely damp since we only got drizzle. We got a whoppin’ .06 of an inch with the cold front. *sigh*

Just get a couple of the smaller ones for the shed if you can’t get a large one. Better than none at all.
