Mila Kunis, Debra Messing and Mayim Bialik are among more than 200 celebrities and entertainment executives who have signed an open letter calling on Amazon and Barnes & Noble to remove the antisemitic documentary and book, “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America,” from their respective platforms.

A bunch of censors. I know Amazon is a private company, but it is a monopoly and should be treated like a common carrier. It looks like the Jewish community is getting its victim card back. Now they can force people they do not like to bend the knee. For a while it appeared the Woke Left were kicking out the Secular Jewish community from the group. These same people have no problem calling other Whiteys the most virulent nasty things.

This nutty “Black Israelites” stuff has been around for a long time and was sort of tolerated even in NYC, where you’d hear these raving fantasies on black radio stations all the time, for example. There used to be a group of fruit loops that dressed up in what looked like old costumes from a grade-B version of Aida and stood across from Macy’s shouting about the white devils and how the Africans were the “real” Israelites, the Jews had “stolen” it from them, etc.

It’s crazy stuff, but it’s nothing new, so I’m assuming the media/entertainment world just didn’t like Kyrie Irving for some other reason and are using this to cancel him. They’re like a pack of wild dogs when they sniff out prey, they all turn at once and go after a new victim.

The whole Kyrie Irving “controversy” exposed the NBA as a bunch of frauds.

They disciplined Irving for promoting a video produced by Amazon and sold through Amazon’s streaming service, but they continue to do business with Amazon for streaming NBA games around the world.

I hadn't heard anything about it so I did a search. Here is an excerpt from a National Review article:

Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America... promotes the conspiracy theory that African Americans are the true descendants of the biblical Israelites and that the Jews of today are impostors who culturally appropriated the religious heritage of black people to dominate and oppress people of color. In doing so, the film engages in Holocaust denialism, includes falsely attributed Hitler quotes, and declares that Jews were responsible for slavery in America.

I've often grappled intellectually with the problem of the First Amendment covering socially harmful, non-factual expressions that are presented as fact. Who is to decide? Individuals can sue for slander or libel. When it is against a group, who has standing to sue?

Fictionalized historical rebuke porn posing as fact like the 1619 Project is similarly toxic. Decent people deplore those who pose as decorated veterans, or as non-white to take advantage of affirmative action.

This challenge to the smooth functioning of our republic was a tolerably small percentage of problems in prior centuries when the nation was vastly monolithic in ethnicity and religion; but lying with impunity is now an increasing social contagion. John Adams' prescient quote comes to mind:

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Our traditions have allowed a certain amount of falsehood in order to preserve the greatest amount of freedom for the greatest number of people; doing so is often painful. Left unchecked, it has historically been a casus belli.

Censorship is never the answer. Ridicule it, prove it’s wrong, but calling for censorship comes out of fear.
