Trump backs McCarthy for Speaker, Stefanik for House GOP chair

Former President Trump said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has his support for Speaker if the GOP wins a House majority in Tuesday’s midterm elections as anticipated.

Trump also threw his support behind Rep. Elise Stefanik (N.Y.) for another term as chair of the House Republican Conference, telling Fox News, “I think she’s fantastic.”

The former president revealed the endorsements in an interview on Monday on the eve of Election Day.

McCarthy faces no public challengers to the top slot in the House if Republicans win the majority. The party needs to net just five seats on Tuesday to clinch control of the chamber, and polls have shown the GOP with an edge heading into the election.

What in the world is the matter with Trump? A big chance, and he wants the same old same old.

No reason not to back him if there is no serious challenge to his leadership. Once Jim Jordan backed McCarthy it seemed clear that the entire GOP House caucus is clearing the decks for him.

If McCa (I hate that) gets off the maga reservation, maybe they can do an insurrection?

I want to see McCarthy snatch the gavel from Pelosi!

That witch will quit soon, after having been rejected TWICE as speaker. Biggest loser in Speaker history!

BYE BYE NANCY!

Ditch McCarthy, he’s already said he’s not going to actually do anything, said no impeachment of anyone in the Biden regime.

Since there’s zero chance of getting a 2/3rds vote to convict in the senate, any impeachment is basically for show.

He hasn’t learned a damned thing. I assume that rat fink Kushner would be back as well. You won’t find a bigger MAGA supporter than me but if Trump is going the let the same swampers play him for the sap again I will open to considering an alternative. How about Pence? Is he coming back too?

I am ready to move on from Trump. Some of these choices, such as McCarthy, are bad. He can, and should do better.

I've cut President Trump a lot of slack. But this is almost a bridge too far. Somebody please thump President Trump with the Clue-stick!

NOTE TO PRESIDENT TRUMP: MCCARTHY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. NONE OF THE ENTRENCHED ARE YOUR FRIEND.

President Trump, PLEASE reconsider. He’s in cahoots with Ryan who did nothing to help the Republicans even after they decided to let his lame duck arse stay on!!McCarthy has dissed you and he’s weak......please reconsider!

Who is challenging McCarthy for the GOP House leadership position?

At this point, it’s likely that anyone refusing to support McCarthy for House Speaker has no option but to support Pelosi.

I have to assume that Trump is making a strategic play. He wants a speaker that owes a debt to Trump and he likely sees that there isn't a likely path for anyone else to take it away from McCarthy so he is making his decision accordingly.

He did the same thing in the primaries. He sometimes picked the lesser candidate (from a MAGA perspective) in favor of a more establishment friendly guy when it looked like the MAGA guy had no path. He likes to back winning horses because losing horses can't repay favors.
