Loving Our Neighbors
Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. Leviticus 19:18
In the days of self-isolation and lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic, words by Martin Luther King Jr. in his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” rang true. Speaking about injustice, he remarked how he couldn’t sit idly in one city and not be concerned about what happens in another. “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality,” he said, “tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects us all indirectly.”
Likewise, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted our connectedness as around the world cities and countries closed to stop the spread of the virus. What affected one city could soon affect another.
Many centuries ago, God instructed His people how to show concern for others. Through Moses, He gave the Israelites the law to guide them and help them live together. He told them to “not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life” (Leviticus 19:16); and to not seek revenge or bear a grudge against others, but to “love your neighbor as yourself” (v. 18). God knew that communities would start to unravel if people didn’t look out for others, valuing their lives as much as they did their own.
We too can embrace the wisdom of God’s instructions. As we go about our daily activities, we can remember how interconnected we are with others as we ask Him how to love and serve them well. — Amy Boucher Pye
Why do you think Jesus echoed God’s law when He told the religious leaders to love their neighbors as themselves? How could you put this instruction into action today?
Loving Creator, help me to share Your love and grace today.

Glad you got through that night so well. I broke my rule and got on the computer for a while that night to check on the situation and the storms were already past your area by then. I wasn’t sure when they fired up and am glad you missed out on that action.
You’re lucky to be able to walk to your polling location. Ours is a 5 mile drive out in the country but it’s a pretty drive.
Nov. 2016 was a crazy drive to get there. A tornado passed over the back of our farm the night before and hit the area where our polling location is. Hit it HARD. They had generators and we were able to vote but getting there around downed trees in the roads was an ordeal. Thank goodness Hubby knows all the back roads! I never would have been able to find my way there on my own.
No storms tonight and tomorrow is going to be a gorgeous day to get out to vote.

I’m an election day voter as well. My house backs up to the elementary school where I vote. I will drive as I can’t manage walking across the playground any more in the snow.
I’ll get up a bit early and vote before school starts.

So near, yet so far. Can’t blame you for not wanting to walk across the school yard with the snow making it such a mess. Heck, just walking across the bridge over the creek would be iffy. Doesn’t help that it’s snowing again right now, at least at Lake Hood. Not snowing real hard but it’s going to snow for a while.
Driving will be enough of an adventure tomorrow. LOL But enjoy getting out to cast your votes!
