Exactly. In the 1950’s the leading academic theory of political opinion formation was the “opinion leader” model. It assumed great importance to newspaper endorsements.

Today newspapers are serving such atomized subscriber bases that their editorial stance is almost meaningless. They typically do not have a local editorial staff, and like Gannett are getting editorials from some national office.

I looked at the Milwaukee Journal last week, hoping to see polls on the Wisconsin’s Governor’s race. There are no polls for that race, because they cannot afford to do any. And their piece on Ron Johnson was a reprint of a hit-piece article authored by ProPublica (!)

So, to the Palm Beach Post, Tampa Bay Times, and others whose names I have been too disinterested to notice - sod off!

There’s nothing wrong with advocacy in journalism. It is the nature of the beast. There *is* something wrong with readers who are incapable of critical thinking.

Yeah. That jumped out at me too. The framers understood that a dictator could arbitrarily deem anything ‘a greater good’ to undermine individual rights. Seems like the current crop of Democrats are hellbent on doing just that.

The media lies about democrats covering up bad they are, and they lie about republicans making up stories about how bad they are.

So it seems ..the media just lies.

That is their only job.

“Charlie Crist is the best choice. He'll work to unite us — Democrats, Republicans and independents alike.”

Perhaps liberals do not remember that Charlie Crist worked to put men and women inmates in chains working on the road side.

That is how he got the name “Chain Gang Charlie.”

Of course he was attempting to portray himself as tough on crime for several weeks. That phase did not last long; but who wants to take the chance that Chain Gang Charlie will not come back.

Florida television stations and their “news” departments also endorse Crist. Oh they may not do so overtly, but the way they treat all Democrat party candidates is obvious to anyone.

Media/journalism/fake news is as leftist at the local level as it is in the national media.

It’s truly baffling that legacy media, with steadily declining readership/viewership, can’t seem to understand, even though they’re allegedly in business to make money, that their overwhelmingly leftward political ideology is losing them beaucoup bucks.

Jimmy Kimmel actually admitted recently that his opinions are likely costing his show half its potential audience.

That’s the first time I’ve heard anyone of his ilk acknowledge that possibility.

>>The job of a news reporter is to report the news - NOT to give their opinion or try to influence the opinions of others<<

I’ve been saying this for YEARS. I so long for the days of newscasters simply telling/reading the NEWS.

I haven’t bought a paper in 20 years and haven’t watched network or their cuck affiliates in over 10 years. They violated my trust long ago. Let ‘em all burn in Hell.

Actual print newspapers are going the way of the buggy whip. The Editorial section should be the first section gone.
My mom used to get the newspaper delivered. When she realized the only thing she was checking was the obituary section she discontinued it.

The circulation of the local newspaper has become so low that less than 2% of local households subscribe. I’m looking for them to close before long.

<>The framers understood that a dictator could arbitrarily deem anything ‘a greater good’ to undermine individual rights. <>

Not exactly.

The subject of dictators came up at the Virginia Ratifying Convention of 1788. No less than the leading Anti-Federalist of the age, Patrick Henry, defended the service of Thomas Nelson, appointed “governor” of VA.

He served for less than six months, just long enough to defeat British general Cornwallis at Yorktown. Wiki him. The republican principles of the deposed Governor, Thomas Jefferson, prevented Jefferson from taking the essential, difficult measures to deal with Cornwallis’ rampage through VA.

Thomas Nelson wasn’t so restrained. He confiscated all the arms, food, supplies, transportation he thought necessary to supply General Washington and militia troops at Yorktown. A republican “governor” was given authority to do what it took to save the state. A dictator in all but name, yes?

What pathetic hyperbole

It’s one thing to disagree with political points of view or actions, but good grief adults acting like children with such desperate exaggeration
